"Scalloping" is the wavy shape of the green, yes.Michael modeller 48 wrote:The Great Auk wrote:That's some great paint work, Andrew! I think you've captured the look perfectly and I don't think I've ever seen that green scalloping done better.

Re: More Tales From The Basement Lab
I've applied most of the decals now. The secret with Techmod decals is to use hot water. Don't let it get tepid, or the decals will crack. That happened on one of the tail serials, but fortunately, it was fixable.
There are still a few decals left which go near the canopy, but I will add those after I've finished painting the frames.
There is also quite a lot of stencilling, which I suspect will be completely invisible on the upper wings, so I may not bother with it.
The pilot has been added, and the canopy frame has had a preliminary coat, but will need more attention. There are also those annoying gaps around the canopy which will need filling.

That's a nice update Andrew and your P-40 looks very much the business with the decals on.
Your canopy framing seems fine to me. Painting those is always challenging.

Re: More Tales From The Basement Lab
This canopy has very chunky framing, so I am brush painting Vallejo Air on, and using a cocktail stick to remove any spills onto the transparent panels. It'll need two coats to get the lines solid, I think. The Great Auk wrote:That's a nice update Andrew and your P-40 looks very much the business with the decals on.

The P-40 is really coming together well Andrew, and the colours look spot on
Best wishes

Very nice, Andrew and I must say that it is good to see a P-40 without a shark's mouth* for once!
* other P-40's with sharks mouths are available.

There is an option on the decal sheet, but it is a bit of a cliche.ShaunW wrote:Very nice, Andrew and I must say that it is good to see a P-40 without a shark's mouth* for once!

Anyhow, I've been away in Nova Scotia for ten days, and it's the start of term, so progress has been delayed.
Here is Rocky the Lobster
I also have a LOT of pictures of HMCS Sackville, the only surviving Flower Class Corvette, which is a museum ship in Halifax Harbour, which I will post up as soon as I can sort them out. I got a new phone, with a much better camera than the old one and might just have taken a few too many photos on the trip.
Meanwhile, on the Golden Oldies GB, I will be building this:
cheers

One fine looking P-40 Andrew, but that Bulldog! Man, that is a beauty! I really like the look of the aircraft and the paint scheme you chose is beautiful. Where did the decals come from for that scheme? I have the Airfix kit (not this scheme) and would like to give it a go some day but cannot find a good decal set.

They are from Model Alliance (now out of business), but you might be able to find a set. "Wings of Silver" is the name of the sheet. You would also need interwar roundels, as the sheet doesn't supply them.PGAS wrote:One fine looking P-40 Andrew, but that Bulldog! Man, that is a beauty! Belly tank on the P40, plus some paint touch ups. Still needs a decal on the lower wing.
The other build is the Frog Lysander in the Golden Oldies GB.

Re: More Tales From The Basement Lab
Nearly finished the P40. Work on the prop is stopped because I've run out of yellow paint for the tips of the blades.
I've now added the underside decal, and I'm trying to seal up the gap in the canopy with glue. Then there are a couple of decals to put on near the canopy framing.
