The Bulldog looks fantastic Andrew 8-)

I expect the P40 will do likewise but with significantly more effort needed I suspect!
Best wishes

Jim
If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing

Thanks Iggie

Already done 2 rounds of fill and sand. It's getting there. I did find a painted pilot figure from another project, and I added a piece of plastic card as a crude seat-back.

The P-40 on a stand would work very well - paint the interior black to hide the lack of detail, substitute a better pilot figure, and you don't have to use the pretty poor undercarriage. Win/win!
Just drilled out a slot in the drop tank to take a spare Airfix stand

The blue stripe was okay, but the red was ragged on one side. Fortunately I found some suitable red stripe in the decal folder, so that was pressed into service. Then the upper wing detached on one side as I was handling the model...

Fortunately, I have managed to repair this, with one rigging line in need of replacement.

Here we are, with the red decal stripes on, and the upper horizontal stabilizer decals added too.

They were tricky little blighters!

That's all for today

P40 is being primed. The Airfix P40B kit is vastly superior, and a very enjoyable build

The box says 1/72, but several people have measured it and estimated from 1/64 to 1/69
It doesn't look so bad on its own, but might be odd displayed against 1/72 kits.

Oh I see, I do not know how to measure scale. I just assume the box is accurate to scale. I have a cutting mat but do not know how to use it however.

Question: Landing Gear measuring: How do I use my cutting mat to measure my landing gear angles (sorry about rotation of photo)??

Do you just go by eye and estimate angle to mat?

I'd just do it by eye. Find a few photos on the internet to help.

Here's some more painting work done. The aircraft has grey undersides (apart from the entire tail section), so that's been sprayed.

Image

The upper wings are olive drab, but with small wavy lines of medium green to break up the wing outline. The easiest way I can think of to paint this is to paint the medium green first, then mask the edges with silly putty, and then spray on the olive drab.

It looks a lot better now that I have a coat of green on the upper wings

Image

I've used Vallejo Air US Green as the base colour, but then oversprayed in places with Vallejo Air RLM02, which is a shade lighter, to give the impression of some fading.

Image

The exhaust manifold has been painted by hand, using a base coat of dark grey, followed by a drybrush with saddle brown.

Image

I'm keeping the tailplanes off for now, as I need to paint the tail white. I also have to keep an olive green strip for the serial number, on the rudder so there will be some fiddling around with masking for that.

Your Bulldog and S6b are absolute gems, Andrew!

I really like how that P-40 is coming together too.
