I agree with Iggie - the Spitfire looks just right and I do like the base on which you present it, really sets the model off. The Turnan wing loooks just fine to me - I for one cannot see the joint!

Thanks!

The fit of the Tunnan wing is good, in the fact that there are, as you say, no gaps as such. What I meant by it being a poor fit was that is it effectively a butt-joint, and there is absolutly no posittive fit at all to help with keeping it in place and giving an indication of what the angle of the wing will be.

Nothing impossible, plans are on the internet to get the right angle and a jig (or paint pots :-D ) is needed to hold the wings in place - but given the fit of the rest of the kit it was a real surprise. It's like the deisgn team stepped out for a fag break and left it to the cleaner to sort out.

It's got a few gaps, but nothing that PPP can't sort out!

Good looking Spitfire Stuart. Another fine job on the painting. Looking forward to the Tunnan as well.

I have to admit, I don't usually build 1/48 scale. I think I build to a certain sized finished model. Too big and I lose interest. The desired size usually ends up being 1/72 scale but will change for different types such an MD500 helicopter since it would be too small in 72nd.

This is it. The moment we should have trained for.

Spit looks good, Tunnan too. I will be tackling the same kit some time in the future, so watching with a lot of interest.

Good-looking Spit!
Is that based on the latest-tool Vb?

Cheers,

Thanks!

Noooooo! This is based on the old pre-hornby tooling.

Just back from an additional holiday (squeezed in before Madam has to return to work!) and I see I have missed a bit of action on here Stuart. You've made a mighty fine job of the old quarter scale Spitfire and proved that it can still be built up into a decent replica with a bit of TLC. And the Tunnan - a Cold War thing of beauty!!
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Work is the curse of the modelling classes!

Huh?
Very generous, Shaun. Not ugly by any means, but don't get carried away!

I thought the Spit fin looked like the pre-Hornby Mk.I, but I couldn't be sure.
Nicely done, Stuart!

Thanks Gents!

The Tunnan is certainly a strange looking beast - It's one of those aircraft that look's much better in flight than on the ground.

I've spent some time today cleaning the seams up - and I have to say I'm struggling with it. The surface detail is far far to shallow for my liking. Not only is it making clean up difficult (it's too fine for my rough and ready approach) but I'm certain to loose it all under paint anyway....

...Not unless I learn how to apply micron thin paint with a hairy stick.
