Re: Lancfan's Spitfire 16 Blitz fun build
Having decided to airbrush the model I found that the colour I chose for the underside needed two coats of paint and took longer to dry than usual to speed things up I have turned on the central heating to heat up and dry the air a little.

Paint drying time can often be the make or break of a blitz! Turning the central heating up is a cunning ploy but would not go down well with the Household Chancellor here especially as it is unseasonably warm this side of the Pennines

Turning on the central heating did the trick Shaun and the paintwork is almost done now with only the yellow leading edges to go.

Having gone so far beyond the 24 hours I have slowed down to finish at a more leisurely pace- the painting has been done and the decals will come next.

Hey David,
There was not decals for the yellow leading edge and beige green stripe?? Those were painted on?
Good try on the time! Looking good. Going to finish before the midnight hour??

David,
So restorers in air museums some times do not use the authentic paints?? So you are using "authentic" paints that the restorers NOT the builders of the airplane used??

Today Michael most museums get these things right but incorrect colour schemes do creep in every now and then, this aircraft was one of them and yes, I am copying the inaccurate colour scheme of the full size.Michael modeller 48 wrote:David,

Re: Lancfan's Spitfire 16 Blitz fun build
The weekend is over, I have enjoyed my pretend blitz build, I failed miserably and I am now enjoying a pretend DNF completion which is still ongoing. The DIY serials and aftermarket generic national markings have been applied but two decals remain, the presentation scrolls on each side of the nose, these will have to be hand painted onto clear inkjet decal paper before they can be applied.

A valiant effort David. Great work. It will look great when finished.

You miss the 24 hour mark BUT would not say "failed miserably". Very good result! My Ju-52 Edward 1:144 was a miserably failure!! haha
What are presentation scrolls??
A prop, landing gear and canopy and a good addition to the collection!

Cheers Greg Are you going to Telford? I'm hoping to finally make it this year.
Michael, if you look at the picture link http://www.airport-data.com/images/airc ... 325348.jpg; you will see the port scroll on the engine cowling.

There's no miserable failure here as far as I can see, David. Hopefully you will make Telford and if so please do pop along to the CBK SIG tables to have a chat as it would be great to see you.

Re: Lancfan's Spitfire 16 Blitz fun build
Of course I will Michael but life and work predominate during the week- the task for tonight has been to paint the presentation scrolls nose art on to blank decal paper. Everyone, there was fun in the misery ! Shaun, I will seek you out if/when I get there.

The nose art has been painted on to decal paper and the DIY decals have been applied, the painted decals are in the centre of the picture and the decals are shown in position to each side.
