Disorders bench

Post by PTB11 »

Thought I'd show what I'm up to in my little corner of the loft ;-)

First on the list is this:
Image

By no means a state of the art kit, but nicely detailed and a pretty decent fit. Anyway it only cost about £14.
This is how far I've gotten:
Image

One thing I don't like about it is the two piece AIM-120 missiles. I thought about buying aftermarkets, but they'd be dearer than the kit!!!
Regards, Paddy.

How’s the overall fit?

It's quite good overall. A little filler and some sanding, but nothing major.

Well, after saying the fit was good, it was time to add the intake to the underside. This was going to take a bit of work:
Image

To reduce the gap I sanded the top side of the intake to get it to sit lower:
Image

This still left a gap. So I inserted some thin plasticard and glued it into place:
Image

When it was dry, I trimmed it with a scalpel and sanded it flush:
Image

I also spent the evening sanding seams on the missiles and drop tanks.
Moving slowly but surely and really enjoying the build.
Regards, Paddy.

Well it's starting to look kinda F-16ish:
Image

The canopy is just set in place. I tinted it with Tamiya X-19 Smoke. It went a bit hazy, but when it dried I gave it another coat of Klear, which seemed to help.
After making a set of AIM-120s by joining the two halves and adding the fins, I realised the kit supplies a second set of 120s that are moulded in one piece
When I get the canopy masked and fixed in place, it's on with the primer.

Up next is this:

F-16 is coming along nicely. It's a good looking aircraft. The Greyhound should be a good one to build also. I don't think Tamiya produce any bad models

Best wishes

Jim

Thanks guys. I agree about F-16s - Lovely aircraft. And Nigel, You're right about Tamiya kits, I love building them.

I made a start on the M8 today. Thankfully the driveshaft came as a single piece with just a few bits to add. I dreaded trying to get everything aligned.

After about 45 mins I had the lower hull finished:

The F-16 still needed a few more slivers of filler after I added the tail and nose cone, so I never got the primer done.
Hopefully tomorrow
Regards, Paddy.

The Tamiya M8 is a great little kit.

Good going on the F16. I will file that info away for future. M8 looks very good.

Thanks for looking in guys.
I've got all the main colours on the F-16:
Image

The modulation is a little heavy, so I'll tone it down tomorrow. I've still the armaments to paint as well as the detail painting on the aircraft itself.
Regards, Paddy.

I toned down the modulation and added a few coats of Klear:
Image

The other bits and bobs with a few coats of Klear as well:
Image

I sprayed the yellow and brown ordnance markings on the missiles and bombs. I'll mask them before spraying the base colours.
What I don't like about the Italeri ordnance are the markings are engraved on.

Thanks Jeff.

Back with the Greyhound today.
As it has an open turret and I'm leaving the forward hatches open, I added a little detail inside. I used plastic strip and rod to make the comms boxes and used copper wire to simulate the wiring. I also added a few canteens which were found mounted inside AFVs.

Base colour added:

After weathering:

I drilled out the barrel of the 30 cal for the turret:

As it stands this evening:
