MoMil's Bench

Post by MoMil »

Hi guys,

I haven't posted since last November but life changes (voluntary redundancy, setting up own business & chasing work) have kept me busy with just the odd hour or so so model. Anyway, here's an update;

Link to the old stuff - http://gregers.7.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=9599;

The 'Widow' is stalled as I got as far as decalling but was VERY unhappy with the fit of the transparencies and then found out Vector do a resin set. Duly ordered & still waiting.

Image

For something 'quick' while I was waiting, I started the Sweet 144 Macchi 200. A lovely little kit but with 2 problems to my mind 1) no cut out for the cockpit which, with a 'semi open' canopy, doesn't look good & 2) no cutouts for the wheel wells. I decided to tackle 1 & leave 2 as, hopefully, not many people look underneath my collection. So, surgery on the fuselage & a floor, seat etc.

Image

That, I think, is when the madness struck! I decided to try this scheme -

Image

There were decals for the white triangles but I decide to mask as I wasn't sure how opaque the decals would be. It also said in the notes that the outer triangles were removed later so just one set on this one.

Image

In order to try and get the effect, I started with a coat of the light brown, dotted it with masking fluid & then applied the olive green. Final stage was, with a very fine hairy stick, to apply the tan. It sorta worked &, I hope, passes the 6 foot test quite well.

Finally, the underside - like I said, who looks underneath?

(Sorry, couldn't find a 2 pence, that's a Euro)

Thanks for looking.
Cheers,
MoMil

Very nice little model. The Widow is looking good and the green scheme makes a nice change from the iconic black.

I love that P-61! Thats truly beautiful. Too bad about the clear parts. Whats the resin set you're referring to? Does it include better fitting glass?

Thanks your nice comments.

Hi Softscience,
Vector offer a full transparency set in resin which has got to be better than the original Revel supplied parts - I'm sure they're OK if you want everything open but just don't fit properly when you close it all up.

Hi Dirk,
A good question! Plenty in the stash but which one............ I'll let you know when the decisions made.

Nice Sweet kit :). Macchi looks excellent! I can see some of the fit problems with greenhouse in the Widow (I think).

After 2 months of waiting, I finally received the resin transparencies for the P-61. Trouble is, I now have some surgery to do on a just about completed model - oh well, I'll post the progress once I'm back from more travelling.

As promised (?) a month ago, traveling over & finally finished the P-61. The transparencies from Vector were superb although I did have to perform surgery to the rear end. Very soft resin, easily workable and would be crystal clear if it wasn't for my ham fisted masking & painting. this is what the look like & are highly recommended -

Hi Softscience, yes, the clear parts were well worth it. As I said, the Revell bits are OK if you want it all opened up but do not close properly.

I'd love to say that I spent hours masking the spinners but I couldn't lie like that with a straight face. I used the Zotz 'Venomous Widows' decal sheet (ZTZ48/036) & they have the spinners included. Not only that, they fit very well even with my hamfisted skills.
