Ray'S Creation Station

Post by RayS »

Well, I thought it was about time I started one of these threads. I usually have so much going on I don't have time to post up individual threads for my builds, and then I get distracted and shift to another build and don't get back to it for some time. So this is a good place to keep my progress.

So I build mainly 1/72 and 1/144, I like larger models (though I am fast running out of display space). You will see a lot of Aussie subjects in the 1/72 and a number of the same kit in different versions and schemes. In 1/144 I build airliners and those in military service where I can't get 1/72 kits for.

So on with the show!

My current line up of builds being worked on in the past month or so..

A very long term build has been the Anigrand C-17 Globemaster in 1/72. I started it about 10 years ago and have been working on it on and off over the years. Stilly me decided to build an interior for it.

Next up is a Hasegawa P-3 conversion to a P-3G or P-7A as it was marketed. This one has not been going as long. I actually started it. I involved using two kits to increase the length and span, other mods have been new engines and props

A dabble into vacforms has the Welsh Models P-8A in work as well. I can't seem to build anything OOB these days (as can be seen with the prior 2 builds). So I had to open the weapons bay.

And finally for this update another resin kit, a Kiwi Models CT-4A Airtrainer. It is an Australian designed, NZ built primary trainer that was used by the RAAF. Again, nothing OB box here as I rebuilt the instrument panel and seats so far.

So there is a smattering of what has been worked on recently (along with my NASA GB757 currently on the go).

Some progress on the CT-4, I have the cockpit complete and painted. the colours are a tad boring but I will live with it

and with a bit of persuasion, the canopy is on albeit with a gap under the front section
Image

I stuffed some painted rod in the gap and will fare it in with putty once the canopy is masked.

And another one I dragged from the shelf of doom, an Italeri C-130 which I started to rescribe. I have added J model engines to one wing so far to make it a KC-130J. I have jet to finished the rescribing on the other wing and the tailplanes. No doubt there will be some fixes required onthe fuselage when I prime.

Then I decided it would be the Harvest Hawk variant with Hellfire missiles!
Image

I cut a couple of hole in the rear of the sponsons to add the IR detection system and have filled the cabin windows as compared to pictures they look to be out of position. They will be drilled in the correct location later.
Image

and I started on the sensor pod conversion for one of the fuel tanks

Good stuff. That C-130 will be an interesting version.

Nice one, Ray, that is indeed an interesting conversion to a variant I've never heard of - I'm familiar with the gunship conversion of the Herc but I never knew the aircraft was modified to tote the Hellfire.

Yes, the Marines have to be different. The Harvest Hawk KC-130 can refuel other aircraft and blow stuff up, talk about multi role! :)

Wonderful project on the go, Ray.
All big stuff. No fighters? You gave me good advice re RAAF Mirages in the past,

Cheers,

I'll get around to the fighters one day David. I have kits of all the RAAF stuff from Sabres onward. I prefer the bigger stuff as not many others build it.

I suppose I could add this one to the thread as well. Yes another larger kit
