Ratch's 2018 perils with plastic
Re: Ratch's 2018 perils with plastic
Postimage appears under the box I am typing into on this forum if you are using chrome or a chrome derivative on a mobile device (eg samsung internet) There is a blue box with a p in it and words add image to post. (Use chrome with an addblocker and the internet is so much faster and easier)
For me the benefit of using postimage on this forum is that I can leave the images on my hard drive and then just select them and postimage does whatever it does and takes a copy of the photo and returns me a string of text which puts that image in the post on this forum and (providing I retain the ability to be able to edit the post to get at the text string again) I can then post that photo over on other forums ... so this is the only mechanism that I now use, but it does mean that "technically" I post everything on this forum first by a few minutes at the absolute mimimum.
So say in April/May when I plan to take part in an annual GB on another forum , I am aware that I will need to be (and I am going to be) very careful to make sure that I post straight away over on that forum
I generally only post up in blocks of 5-6 photos at an upload - so if want to share 10 images of work in one update, I post up within the one post, in 2 smaller batches and it uploads ok)
What postimage does with the photos and where they actually go - I have no idea .... but the originals are on my hard drive and I have no worries with a photo account getting overloaded but I am much more select now as to what i post up to it and careful of background in any images etc of say any of us or the house and garden. the mess on my modelling area, or an old sheet draped somewhere are my image backgrounds generally.

I remember my build of this ship, it even floated in the bath, without turning turtle

Great bit of waterlining with the Graf Spee, Ratch. I presume Deutschland is the GS's sister ship - are there only a few differences such as a torpedo tube here or there or minor armament details?
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Nice start with both; Graf Spee was a pretty ship that much is for certain
Best wishes

Re: Ratch's 2018 perils with plastic
Cheers guys, there were three ships in the Panzerschiffe class; Deutschland (later renamed Lutzow), Admiral Scheer and Admiral Graf Spee. The latter two were almost identical up to the scuttling of Graf Spee, then the two surviving ships underwent refits - new bows, new funnels and some other cosmetic changes. Both of mine will be portrayed as near as I can to December 1939 configurations
I'm building them side-by-side, making the alterations to Deutschland as we go along. Here the bridge is being constructed.

The same area is dry fitted on the Admiral Graf Spee

Although the ships are from the same class, there are some striking differences
DSC_0003 by Richard Linnell, on Flickr
And some quite subtle ones

Watching with interest. Are you using some old Airfix mag article or something boaty related that DaveCov had as reference for the changes?

No Chris, I'm using German Pocket Battleships 1939-45 ISBN 978-1-84176-501-3. Its not perfect, I'm having to guess the size of things, but there a fair bit of info on the three ships

This is interesting conversion work, Ratch. Guessing at the relative size of things from photos is usually par for the course in my modelling world

Cheers Shaun. I decided it was time for a bit of paint
DSC_0001 by Richard Linnell, on Flickr
And then I started thinking about colours - I shall see if I can get some accurate-ish paints
So I just painted the stands.

In the meantime

I cracked this simple little kit open
It has been started, and there's not much to it

I transferred the pilot from spares
Some blanking plates

I like the grain effect on the stands; very posh that!
Good start on the Horten; who's boxing is it?
I've built the Revell version, and one day (if I win the lottery) I will get one of those big 1/32 kits of it from Japan!
