Continuing my Italeri Waco build, another coat of Olive Drab

Nice one. Assault gliders are not all that common on here so it's good to see one, Ratch. Is this one going to receive the full D-Day stripes treatment or be more of a plain Jane workaday Waco in straight OD?

This is another episode in my Northamptonshire Project. The 314th Troop Carrier Group, 9th Air Force, 34th, 309th, 310th and 43rd Sqns were based at Spanhoe (Harringworth) from March 1944. By April there were 30 Wacos at Spanhoe. No Wacos were used operationally from Spanhoe, they were used exclusively for training.

The Waco is almost there

Matchbox's 1982 PK-126 Lightning T55 - I bought the kit 6 years ago and have only just opened it. The previous owner had stuck in the rear wall to the cockpit and painted it grey. My work on the pilots.





I have a soft spot for the Lightning. I can remember being taken to Gaydon with my grandfather, laying next to the runway and watching in awe as the Lightnings came down the runway at what seemed like zero feet, and then hearing the roar...

This will be nice to watch!

I can remember watching them to circuits at Valley many. many years ago. I'm guessing they would be T5s being RAF, but that noise!

I got the Waco finished last night and have just taken pictures.

It looks like the Vallejo Matt Varnish has reacted with the Tamiya paint I don't think I shall use Tamiya paints much more, they seem to react with all other manufacturer's products - and besides, I don't have much left

Actually that's a pretty fair representation of a dust-covered museum piece, Ratch.

I've never had good luck with Tamiya paints. I still have three bottles that are over 20 years old and will probably last longer than I do.

I really like your Waco! Not a subject often seen and even rarer still without D-Day stripes. Well done!

I've had these for ages and thought I didn't like them because when you apply a second coat the first coat lifted. Funny how the memory plays tricks I think I'll bin the few jars I have left so that I'm not tempted again (I hate waste)

I'm not all that keen of Vallejo matt coat and, touching wood, have had no issues applying my favoured Humbrol clear coats over Tamiya acrylics. I have, however, had a bad reaction with Vallejo matt coat going over the top of the same company's gloss coat. Then again, a number of members on here don't seem to like Humbrol clear coats whereas they are my first choice. 'Tis a funny old world
