Re: Shaun's 2018 Bodging Bench
Many thanks for your interest folks, it's all very much appreciated.
And here we have it:
Not breathtakingly exciting I admit, but the blu-tak did its job and has given me a reasonably soft demarcation on the fuselage sides with the Tamiya paint having gone on nice and smoothly. I have left on some of the underside masking and there is also the masking around the rear fuselage, covering the white theatre band. Both the XF-23 and XF-59 paints that I have used here are over 20 years old and are still performing well. Next up is the really difficult bit as far as I'm concerned and that is applying the green blotches. I will switch to my airbrush's fine needle assembly and I intend to lightly mark out the positions of the blotches on the model in pencil before I start. Hopefully all will progress well and I won't be looking at a re-paint - I also admire anyone who can use an airbrush properly LM, I can be a bit hit and miss to say the least!
Thanks for looking.

Cheers, Iggie. I'm going to have such a nervous sweat on tomorrow dealing with the mottling

That's looking sharp Shaun. I just love desert Luftwaffe schemes and this one looks great. Can't wait to see this one finished.

Nice work. One of my favorite 109 schemes.

Very nice work so far Shaun. You'll nail the mottling I'm sure.

That's a great looking build thus far Shaun - looking forward to seeing it done.
How do you find the kit? - I've only ever built their 1/48 P-51D but I do remember it was a fun build.

Stuart Templeton I may not be good but I'm slow...

Re: Shaun's 2018 Bodging Bench
Many thanks for your interest, kind words and encouragement, folks.
I've also built the Tamiya 1/48th P-51, Stuart and I'd say that this kit is on a par. The cockpit on this is not crammed with detail and the seat is a bit weak but on the plus side the external detail is nicely done and there is the option not only for drooped flaps but also opened leading edge slats, which are a characteristic of the full-size and usually require scratch building for AMS sufferers like myself. I'm toying with the idea of building the old Airfix 1/48th '109F next and that will require a fair bit of surgery to the wings.

Re: Shaun's 2018 Bodging Bench
And here's the results of this afternoon's labours:
The green mottling is Tamiya XF-58 Olive Green applied with my trusty Badger after changing from medium to the fine nozzle and needle. A further coat of XF-59 Desert Yellow was then misted over to damp down the overspray and tie the whole lot in a little better. I've seen better attempts at the Luftwaffe desert scheme and I've seen worse. Overall I'm quite happy with the results but the scheme is not 100% accurate in fact any similarities between this model and the actual Black 8 subject aircraft are purely coincidental
I'll now remove the remainder of the masking and press on to the decal stage.
Thanks for looking.
