Re: James' "Shed"

It's the tradition at this time of the year to post pictures of completed builds from the last 12months.... except that I haven't completed anything. Though time at 'bench has been scarce I've also developed and aversion to actually finishing anything have started several kits, some with the intention of been "a quick build" and quickly becoming nothing of the sort! o like me as I used to rarely have more than 2-3 kits on the go. So with a without further ado I present James 2015 Works in Progress!

Waku Yak-15 from the vacform GB. Primered and ready for paint
Image

Magna Firebrand, this is a refurb of a kit given to me my anther forum member, been tinkering with it for 2-3 years but having received a spare canopy from kitaholic and have been spurred gentle prodded into action.
Image

Yes, that TSR2, finally stopped filling and sanding and got it primered and some gloss white on...but only on the underside ;-)
Image

Czechmaster 1/144 Shackleton from the titular GB. Almost ready for primer, still not sure what to do about the props after CM kindly supplied me with only half the required spares
Image

I know a Tamiya kit will be simple shake the box job, James shakes box and thinks there are 1.9 kits in here and starts scratch building a second cockpit!
Image

From early in the year I took and interest in a Frogspawn S6B and then started researching how to accuratize and detail it....
Image

First of the, this 'ill be a quick build Lindberg 1/32 cars ~10 parts, the Sprite MkII so much was wrong with the shape of the wheel arches I couldn't stop myself...
Image

and their equally basic but thankfully more accurate MGA.... just seem to have mislaid a wheel though in the last week :boom:
Image

... and finally I had intended to start these kits this year as they too looked like simple builds. I tried straightening the tracks on the Challenger ( tape to my whiteboard) only for them to start oozing  starts thinking about moulding his own track segments
Image

Well 2016 has a lot of potential for completions..... and if I put those shelves up plenty of room to start a few more kits!

Happy New Year UAMFers

Hurray! I found the missing MGA wheel after looking everywhere for it including the vacuum's dust bag...

... in the middle of my workbench under a sheet of sandpaper

Daughter fell asleep on the way home from work/nursery and refused to wake (world of pain for later in the evening) so I was sent the to shed while dinner was put on. Decided to go for broke and get the Yak painted. It and several other kits had been sitting in their primer for a couple of months at least.

With no knowledge of late 40's Soviet colours and definitely none to hand I painted the underside RLM light blue and the upper RLM black green with some yellow to bring it to a dark green. The camera flash makes it appear lighter than it is.

Image

The mix is just so it does not match other dark greens I have on my shelf and I can pretend it is therefore authentically Soviet.

I wonder if the Sovs mixed paint like our lot often did. Put a bit of this in and a bit of that, give it a good old mix and that looks about rightski :ha: Looks good to me James.

The Argosy looks great in the Middle East Camo. Mine is probably going to be a Civvy version.

Amazingly there is yet more progress on the Yak. I've salvaged the undercarriage from the PM kit when I sacrificed it for the betterment of my daughter, but it needed some mods. Firstly some pins to secure it in the wing, new braces as the moulded ones were too short for the new undercarriage bays and some scissor links made from tea light foil - just for fun.

Image

The white blob is the tail wheel cover that I forgot to cut out or paint  Wheels need repainting too.

More unusual activity at chez-Perrin... Yak-15 now on final approach. Decalled and a coat of Hannant's Flat Varnish applied. The Hannant's varnish has come out a please soft matt unlike the dead matt of Humbrol Matt Cote. The decals were surprisingly robust, massive amounts of carrier film needed to be trimmed away, the sharp/thick edges are do stand out a little.
