Re: Shaun's Bodging Bench
Superb work on that Hawk Shaun - adding those fences and strakes has really improved it - the flaps are brilliant.
Stuart Templeton I may not be good but I'm slow...

Shaun,
Great work on both the Hawk and the JP. You have done a fine job on the extra details. There is something so cool about dropped flaps on a model. I agree that adding home made details is very satisfying. Looking forward to the continued progress.

Tremendous pair of trainers, Shaun.
You have tamed the red beast!
Both looking well-prepared and ready for application of some character!
cheers,
David

Re: Shaun's Bodging Bench
Many thanks boys, you are very kind. Hopefully I will be able to start painting these next week after cleaning the plastic and masking the cockpits etc. I'll start with a grey undercoat, which will help me in assessing the seams. No doubt there will be some correction required

Re: Shaun's Bodging Bench
Cheers Ratch.
Today I made more progress and finally got the airbrush out on all three of my current builds (all Airfix), the 1/48th Sea Harrier FRS.1, 1/72nd Hawk T.1 (old tool) and 1/72nd Jet Provost T.5 (old tool, option in the Strikemaster kit). Although I am prioritising the Hawk and JP builds, I thought I might as well mix a little more paint and do the Sea Harrier as well. The cockpits on all three models have been masked with Tamiya tape and the Harrier has received additional masking of its intakes using plugs of blu-tak. As is my usual practice the Hawk and JP have been mounted on sprue stilts glued into their u/c bays, which keeps the underside of the models off the deck during painting. Due to the bicycle style u/c of the Harrier, however, the use of stilts was not really feasible and it has to rest on its ADEN gun packs instead - not really ideal as I will have to tidy up the paint on the bottom of the gun packs in due course.
As a choice of undercoat I went for a neutral grey in the form of Tamiya XF-54 Dark Sea Grey, thinned with X-20A thinners and applied using my Badger 100-GXF airbrush fitted with its medium nozzle and needle.
An initial inspection of the painted models has revealed that the seams appear to be satisfactory (makes a change!) and I'll now give the undercoat a couple of days to harden off, make a further inspection of the finish on each and then all being well I'll move on to the top coats.
Thanks for looking.

Re: Shaun's Bodging Bench
Many thanks Ian. At the moment the models are still in the paint shop and the masking for the Hawk and JP is quite complicated, plus we went away for a few days last week so the whole lot has slowed down more than I would have liked. Still, hopefully there will be some progress to report this week!

Re: Shaun's Bodging Bench
Cracking work Shaun. Get a bulldog too and you'd have a nice set with the Hawk and JP

Re: Shaun's Bodging Bench
How do you mean exactly, Shaun? I assume they are temporary so are they glued with something removable or that can be snapped off like white glue?ShaunW wrote: >
