Re: Shaun's Bodging Bench
It pains me to say it[as a Hurricane fan]but the Spit looks beautiful.

Re: Shaun's Bodging Bench
Many thanks for your kind works folks.
She's done, finished up today with a build time of around three weeks, which for me is something of a blitzbau This is more or less out of the box save for the drilled out exhausts and the rear whip aerial, which is stretched sprue fitted into a hole drilled into the fuselage top. A few more pics will be put into the aviation section.
All in all this was a fun build and did what I wanted it to in that my mojo is back. As with all of the Airfix new tool kits that I've built, I found a fair bit of fettling and swearing (for example the spinner did not want to fit over the prop snugly and took a lot of fiddling about with) was required to get a decent fit but that might just be me being hamfisted!
Thanks for looking.

Re: Shaun's Bodging Bench
I have already commented in the aviation section, but that has turned out an absolute treat indeed!
Best wishes

Re: Shaun's Bodging Bench
Cheers, Iggie. I must say that it's made a nice change to build a propellor driven aircraft as my main field of interest is post war jets. And it's a Spitfire - that last Spit I tried, the Airfix new tool Mk.1a also in 1/72nd, turned into a clear coat disaster and general nightmare (I can laugh now but at the time there was lots and lots of bad language!!).

Re: Shaun's Bodging Bench
That turned out really nicely Shaun - a really good bit of work.
So what's next now that you're Mr Mojo again (and can I have some).

Re: Shaun's Bodging Bench
Many thanks folks, your interest is much appreciated!
Now the Spit is done I have turned my attention back to the 1/48th Sea Harrier that I started around this time last year - the build was put to one side whilst I completed other models for SMW. My how the time flies!
After a dusting off and a bit of further attention to the upper wing root joins, I have applied a top coat of Hu-123 Extra Dark Sea Grey by airbrush and the paint was still drying when I took the pics. This is a satin paint and the tinlet I have used was bought earlier this year - not as nice to use as the older paints IMHO, this stuff didn't go on anywhere nearly as well as the old Hu-11 that I used on the Spit.
Most of the hard work, i.e. additional detailing and what have you, has been done on this build now and I'm hoping that I can see it done by the end of the year.
Thanks for looking.

Drying part aside, the EDSG looks very even
Best wishes

Re: Shaun's Bodging Bench
Cheers, Iggie. Yes it has gone on OK, though not as nicely as the old stuff and I've experienced this with newer Humbrol paints before. Also this EDSG doesn't seem to dry very satin - or it hasn't after being applied by me at any rate! The decals are going to need the usual good gloss coat.

Re: Shaun's Bodging Bench
Nice to see that back on the bench Shaun. It's interesting reading about what you have to say about the paint - was the Acrylic of Enamel?
(talking of Harriers - I've been eyeing that 1/24 GR.3 I have in the stash today... To build, or not to build? That is the question )

Re: Shaun's Bodging Bench
Many thanks folks, all in all the Spit was a fun build and shook me out of my building stupor. The Hu-123 is enamel, Stuart and it smells bad even by enamel paint standards (and it is the paint rather than the just being white spirits that I use to thin enamels with) - I've used this shade before and that tin was the same!
There's a VTOL build starting tomorrow over on the Shared Build area hosted by Maverick231 if you fancy dragging out that 1/24th scale beastie. I might have a word with Mav and see if I can include this one even though it is near enough 50% done.
Here she is after receiving a second (equally smelly) coat this morning. Once dried, the first coat was a bit patchy and this further coat has greatly improved things.
