Re: Titan's 2012 Table Top.
Thanks Ralph and by the time I have added a buff filter and some post shading here and there the bright colours should be sufficiently muted.
I have added the U/C and painted the guns, exhaust outlet and the pitot tube.
I will give it a coat of Klear or two and then start adding the decals.
Regards
Mark

You do seem to get your masking spot on! Those invasion stripes were over some bumps but the demarcation is splendid! Don´t you ever get any bleeding? Lovely work.

Re: Titan's 2012 Table Top.
Good question Stamford and the simple answer is no.
I used to cut strips of Tamiya tape for masking but found that in this form it was not quite good enough when it had to conform to any major contour on a model, though Tamiya tape is great for everything else.
Micron tape was the answer as it came in 1mm sizes or smaller and conforms beautifully to any contours on the model with good adhesion but not enough to rip off any paintwork when removed and of course there is no bleed of paint either.
I simply use the micron tape to outline the area I want to mask and then fill in with Tamiya tape.
There are three types and sizes of tape used on the cowl ring of the P-47 with the 1mm being the lightest of the three.
The makes of tape that I use are Aizu, Tristar, Nitto, and Mannen and of course Tamiya.

Re: Titan's 2012 Table Top.
The decals are on, they were ok to use but lots of that horrible milky glue left around the decals which eventually disappears when they have dried.
Next to do....
Give it another coat of Klear.
Buff filter to tone down bright colours.
Panel line wash.
Slight exhaust staining.
Add belly tank
Add bombs
Add Aerial wire.
Weather tires.
Flat coat.
Add lights.
Add canopy and that should conclude this build.

Re: Titan's 2012 Table Top.
This bird is finished and I thoroughly enjoyed putting it together, I think that this was my first Monogram kit and it won't be my last. Great kit for what is essentially an OOB oldie and to have fun with it is surely what making models is all about.
Here tis...
Time for a rest me thinks before I start on another kit, mmmm which one shall it be?

Hi Titan
Your P47 looks perfect. I like it a lot.
Are you already decided your next model?
Kind regards
Santiago

Lovely Jug and thanks for the tape info - I bought a few rolls of thin stuff off the web but it wasn´t sticky enough. I shall be on the lookout for your brand.

Very very good job! I like it a lot!
About the thin tape, I use Micron too, and is the solution to many troubles!
Best regards
Henry

Re: Titan's 2012 Table Top.
Thanks all for the comments.
Ok just started on the second kit from this duo which is the Do335.
Painted and inserted the cockpit and closed the fuselage up and will add some weight to the front before glueing on the top of the nose panel.
Did a little rough detail painting on the engines and bays, the access doors will be open.
And likewise for the cockpit which had some good detail in it.

Monogram's P47's hold up very well to this day. And for the cost. A real bargain.
I like the looks for your build. The finish is blended in very well.
Nice work.

Re: Titan's 2012 Table Top.
Thanks Jeff the p-47 was a very gratifying build so I bougt a few more monogram kits, they may be as good, worse or even better than that kit but if they are half as enjoyable as the Jug than I will be a happy bunny.
That said this Do-335 is not as good to build with a few fit issues around the wing roots and nose wheel well.
The wings and tailplanes are attached.
There is some sanding to do around the wing/tailplane roots as I used stretched sprue and liquid putty as a filler which did the job.
After the sanding I will replace some of the raised detail that was lost with some fine stretch spru.
The front of the cowl can then be attched as can the intakes above the exhust fins.
Regards

Re: Titan's 2012 Table Top.
Thanks Bruce and I should have mine ready for this build I hope...
Sanded and filled as much as I could so after a couple of light coats of primer and pre-shading I am left with this....
I will attached the front portion of the canopy tomorrow and blend it in if needs be then it will be on to the main painting.
Regards
