Stupots sanctuary

Post by Stupot »

Welcome to Stupots Sanctuary. You can see my previous workbench thread here…
https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/gregers ... 12254.html

So looking down over the bench and work continues on the Airfix B-1b Lancer.

After properly studying the paint guide I realised that I had painted the inside of the intakes the wrong colour. This was not an easy fix since the parts are all closed up now and it involved a good brush, a steady hand and a spotlight! A silly little mistake and a bit annoying but now its sorted and I’m all happy again. :)

My little job for today was to replace the locating pins on the engines (I snapped off 3 out of 4!). For this I just used some stretched sprue. Only a little job but without them it would be really difficult to get the engines lined up properly.

Ready for paint now I think!

I'm always impressed by anyone's determination to have a go at something this big. I just don't have the room and so all my builds are of most size. When I was a kid I could only afford the smaller kits. The one exception being the HP Victor which I got for Christmas. Looks like you've got the situation under control though Stu. Look forward to further progress.

Well painting is underway on the Lancer but it’s progressing slowly, very slowly so here’s a quick update on the Hawk T1 that I mentioned in my old workbench thread…

I’m currently working on the cockpit and from the front here you can see that I’ve added some belts and handles to the seats…
Image

And here are the instrument panels which are clearly decals. Although I prefer to have detail on the panels that I can paint myself the decals aren’t too bad (although the front one doesn’t seem to fit very well) and when everything is closed up they should look ok.

So just a few more bits and pieces to add and then I can get on with the wings and fuselage. :)

Cheers

The B-1 Looks great so far , i've never seen on built in this scale although an old freind had a 1/44th kit of the prototype way back when . I do like the bigger kits but as James says space is a premium . I did the Victor for Telford last year and have a Vulcan and a Blinder plus I am tinkering with the Airfix Herc at the mo .

Thanks for the comments. The B-1b is a big kit and challenging in places but I'm enjoying the build. I'm hoping to show some more pics when the paint job is finished.

Thanks again for looking in.

Not much time for modelling lately but a few minutes here and there has enabled me to get on with the Hawk build. It’s now almost built with just a few more pieces to add and the canopy to mask and attach. I’m happy with the cockpit now that it’s finished but I couldn’t help but wonder if the gun sights would look better if replaced with some clear plastic? I might try that if I build another.

Just a little progress on the B-1b too and this is how the finished camouflage on the undersides turned out. It’s a three colour camouflage scheme and I decided it would be easier to paint the undersides first. This is working out ok and now I’m half way through painting the upper surfaces.

Slow progress but I'll get there in the end! :)

Both aircraft are coming along nicely Stupot. Does the Hawk just come in the Red Arrows scheme or is there a choice?

Hi Narayan, the kit only has the Red Arrows option however I have the Xtradecal sheet which has loads of different Hawk schemes to choose from. I'm planning to finish this model in one of the red/white/grey schemes.

After looking at some photos of the Hawk cockpit I decided to add some mirrors and supports for the co-pilots windscreen. I've also attached some mirrors to the front end of the canopy.
Image

The supports make for a tight fit of the canopy hence they do not extend all the way down the side of the instrument panel cover but hopefully the bottom of the canopy frame should hide this. I've also added a few aerials here and there.

Now back to painting the Lancer... :)
