Nope. Done as my idea of a road going version.

For anyone else building this model, the only problem is the that the engine sits about 1/2mm too high (even when fitted correctly) so the bonnet just doesn't quite sit down right. Now a good reason why so few other pics don't have the bonnet on.
Thanks

IIRC yes it was The Prisoner's car.

Thanks James, didn't realise until I finished just how long it took.

Sorry Kruaxi, misunderstood you, very rarely watch telly, so James is right.

Made a start on this yesterday.

The Revell 1/24 Shelby Cobra 427 S/C.

The box art.

The instructions.

The sprues.

And the decals.

Image

Spent most of yesterday de-seaming and cleaning up the main body.

Image

Just behind the front wheel arch are air vents and a moulded on badge.

Image

For either of the racing versions the instructions say to remove the badges, and I also decided to try and open up the air vents.

Image

Last thing tonight, I have managed to get a coat of primer onto the main body.

More pictures as I progress.

My all time favorite car. I will be following this with great interest. I have one in the stash and this just might be the inspiration I need to start it.

Alan, the Lotus is a great modelling break breaker, beautiful finish, though it looks odd to me with steel wheels, all the ones I've seen have had spoked mags on them. Looking at those wings reminds me of a mate saying, his used to get very light in the front end when you started getting the speed up, those wings catch a bit of air...

Thanks for this detailed pics of the Cobra kit, you are tempting me sorely... are you going to remove the chrome from the, er, chrome parts?

Great fun Alan.

Cheers

Dirk,
I'll do my best to make you want to build your own.

Thanks Jim.
The Lotus was a great little car, some detail, good fit and not complicated. Definitely going to get another one sometime.
Agree with the wheels, don't live up to the expectations of the rest of the car, but I haven't got any spares to change them. I can certainly see those front wings causing lift.

The chrome parts for Cobra will definitley have to be de-chromed, very worn locating pins on the moulds, so some very distinctive mould seams present and some flash creeping in.
From what I can see with the Cobra, the only parts really visible are the main body, top of the engine and cockpit area. If I can get those right, should look good.
I'll do my best to get the 'tempting me sorely' to 'will be'.

Thanks

The 24 hours aren't quite up yet :ha:

Been busy all day with it, but not a lot to show.

The seats, radiator & surround have been cleaned up, the engine block has been glued together.

Image

The chassis has had a basic clean up, as has all the suspension parts. The suspension has been fitted to the chassis, its been primed and sprayed with Alclad Gun Metal. Much prefer the blue/black to just black. The boot flooring has been sprayed with Dull Aluminium.

Image

Image

Had a couple of problems with the suspension parts being broken, but luckily the bits were still in the plastic bags, so got them together eventually.

As the model will eventually be fixed to a base, nothing from underneath will be seen, so I'm not going to do any detail painting. But as it comes together, if anything can be seen through the engine compartment, I'll then pick out any small details.

Still can't make me mind up, whether to finish as a road car with my own paint colour choice or the race version in a greenish colour as per box art?

My vote is your own colour scheme, but that box art does look nice... I'd spend two weeks deciding....

Ahhhh about time.... :ha:

As for the color, my kit shows a green car on the cover also which I like because it's so different from the Blue/ White combo you seem to always see. I admit though every time I look at it I can't decide which color I would do. I'm also not sure I (And I mean me. Not trying to influence your build in any way) will use the decal stripes with the flames cut into it. I do like the look of an SCCA racer but the flames are a bit much for me.

Can't wait to see more of this build 8-)

Jim - I do also like that green colour scheme on the box art, but have seen a few people have a lot of problems getting the decals to lay down properly, which is what causing me to go with a plain colour.
I might have a go with one of the side decals and see how it goes. Time to think about it yet.

Dirk - The flame decals are the ones I like, and as you say, most people seem to do the blue one.

Anyhow.........

Got some more engine parts cleaned up and some colour on them.
The rough cast look on the engine and gearbox is how it comes moulded. Shame it will not be seen once together.

Image

Cleaned up the internal tub, sprayed gunmetal on the inside and dark aluminium on the outside.

Image

Got to tidy up the silver around the gear stick boss. Wasn't worried when I painted it, as I tried to use some flock to get a carpet look, which would have covered up the overpainting, but didn't work, so washed it all out, and went back to being just painted.

Because the inside of the tub is going to be all black, I going to try painting each part in a slightly different shade, and to help this along have put some mats in the front to give it some different texture.

I first used some masking tape to create the templates.

Image

Put the tape onto some sticky back felt, I found laying around.

Image

Cut out the felt around the templates.

Image

Then stuck the felt onto the floor of the tub. Just gives it some different texture and shade of colour.

Image

Thanks

I'm getting warm and fuzzies over the big block, great kit details, the intake manifold looks the biz, and the gold Holley four barrel yum yum. That felt really adds to the look of the tub, great idea.
