Well done with those flails
All models are equal. Some models are more equal than others.

Re: Splash's workbench
Thanks Ratch I’m happy how they are turning out, it’s a cheap way of making chains I have used about 2ft so far and will need another 4ft to finish it.Ratch wrote:Well done with those flails
It took me about a quarter of an hour to make the first 2ft so half an hours work should give me enough chain for the rest.
My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.
Re: Splash's workbench
The chain looks amazing. Great work on the Sherman as well.

Nicest case of the crabs I've seen trust you to turn 'Flailing' into something positive.

It may have started in the Krap Kits thread but the story behind it is spurring you to make it something special. I couldn't tell you how many times classic songs have started out as 'Something written on the spot to use up 30 mins of booked studio time'splash wrote:Cheers Chris, I think you have made my mind up for mechrism wrote: Think that the collective committee here has helped and decided that one for you .... open doors it is ...
However, you detailed that 1/600 scale ships walrus ages back, so you know you can work etc with this small stuff. There are small scale etch flat figures available from assorted sources eg: gold medal models for one - that would be suitable for something like this too...
What have I suggested and talked you into now ...
I’m having to convince my self that it’s not a crap kit just the best available for the task I’m now going to have to hunt down figures, this then raises the issue of weathering the ship as my original plan was to build it clean on a stand but if it’s going to be on a beach or water base it has to be weathered

Re: Splash's workbench
The chain does work well. I used a fairly lengthy old cheap necklace chain from a charity shop, because at the time I didnt know the trick of plaiting wire, but would consider that route myself again, as it allows you to get some texture into the pieces in the same way that you can with etch parts whereas necklace chain just hung and drooped

I have one more row of chains to add before I look at what else I need to add.
My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

Re: Splash's workbench
Looking at my work and photos of the Sherman Crab I think I have made a boob, I thought the instructions showed all the chains lined up with each other but photos show they should be staggered, so I might cut them all off and put them back on again this might make them hang better.
My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.
