The more I look at my work the more I think my turrets are too high, I think I will remove the Matilda’s turret and remove a couple of mm

I'm certainly no expert on these things but your CDLs look fine to me, especially with the paint on!

Strange looking things but I agree with Great Auk, they do look the business.

I have gone back a stage, having found this excellent resource site http://www.armourinfocus.co.uk/a22/index.htm I realised I needed to change some more parts on the Churchill for example the drivers front port and the front gun port should be square not round and I realised I should have used SSC15 Olive Drab not Bronze Green as that’s a later tank colour.

The simple solution was to strip off the paint and start again, using a simple mix of Tamiya pains five parts XF-61 two parts XF-62 with two parts XF-3 . In the photo the Matilda has had a coat of the new colour and I’m now happy, the turrets hight has been reduced and I think looks better.

That colour is more like it and these two really are shaping up very well into interesting variants of these two infantry tanks. What are you going to do for markings, Alan? none or something cobbled up out of spares? We won't tell anyone if you use spurious tank numbers etc

There is the problem as I don’t normally built AFV’s. so I don’t have any decals or idea what marking they should have  I have seen another build where the builder put the white/red/white stripes on the front of the Matilda that looked good, so that could be an option.

One of the problems is there are only two CDL’s left in existence, a Matilda and a Grant and no images of a Churchill CDL plus the Matilda in the Bovington tank Museum has been given the name Dover as a tribute not necessarily its original name.

So if anyone has any suggestions I’m open to offers as to what way to go.

Regardless of the wrong colour, they looked fantastic under a coat of paint.

if you trawl through the pages of Aleron decals that Milicast have you will find sets of generic items cut up to use. Dan Taylor also has a range of decals and he has some stuff specifically for a range of Matilda and Churchill

I have I think some leftover ESCI Churchill decals from way back as well. Not sure if they are for the right variant you have there but it is open to offer.

Thanks for the offer, I have just won an ESCI Churchill with mine clearance rollers from eBay, once it arrives I can see if the decals look suitable, if they are I might take you up on your offer.

I hope you get something sorted, Alan. I'll take a look but I don't think I have anything useful for these builds in my decal bank as the majority of my past work and stashed military vehicle kits are in 1/35th.

I’m going to do the Matilda as one from the 49th RTR – 35th Tank Brigade, north-eastern France, September 1944.
