If there are no stupid questions, then what kind of questions do stupid people ask? Do they get smart just in time to ask questions?
Re: AndrewR's Basement Lab
That does look nice Andrew...all over nice.

Fantastic rigging!
Must try to get a hold some tread like that, I’ve only tried stretched spruce an ordinary sewing tread.

Re: AndrewR's Basement Lab
Just tried the search you recommended and I must say i was a tad dissapointed with the results after your warning. The triplane, however, is very sweet - nice work getting all those surfaces at the right angles! I just added the dragon 1/48 Dr1 to the stash.

If that's the only stain you can see on the table, then I'm well pleased...Jagewa wrote:Nice one Andrew, very realistic.. I can see castor oil patches from the engine on the table
I found that Graham (10) was holding a large scale military exercise in his bedroom this evening:
The Air forces were ready:
The supporting Naval task force had assembled:
:
Close co-operation expected between armoured forces and the air support:
Meanwhile, I actually stuck the radio aerial on the Mustang this afternoon.
I just need to put some varnish on to seal the decals.
I'm not going to weather it, I like the look of it as is.
It came out looking better than I expected. My first attempt at NMF with an airbrush too.
Meanwhile, the weather was better today, so I was able to spray the decal sealant on my first home-mande set of decals. Nothing too elaborate, just the N500 serial numbers and the "Sopwith Aviation" sign on the rudders. In the evening, I was able to get the decals and the undercarriage on.
Lots of work still to do, paint on the undercarriage needs a rework, the rigging on the rudder needs putting on, some CDL patching needs to be done.
The prop is finished, apart from dry-brushing the bolts on the boss.
Getting there with this one. To tide me over until the Spitfire PR XIX shared build starts, the Revell/Matchbox Gladiator has been unboxed and cleaned in the ultrasonic bath. Only one silver grey colour of plastic in the Revell boxing, and it is a bit soft. Lots of swirl lines in the plastic too. Not the best pressing I've ever seen, but oodles better than the Triplane.
cheers
Andrew

Cracking result on the Mustang Andrew, and super battle, did you join in?
Cheers

Re: AndrewR's Basement Lab
Good work on both the models. The P-51 looks to be a nice kit. What is the other decal option?
I'm a mostly full-time modeller put a part-time poster....

The Mustang is a limited edition of the regular Tamiya boxing, so you get three different Tuskagee aircraft.Ian wrote:Good work on both the models. The P-51 looks to be a nice kit. What is the other decal option?

Re: AndrewR's Basement Lab
Two fantastic builds Andrew. I've been putting off building a biplane for some time now due to the rigging but you got me thinking about it... You're builds always make me go "hummmm"

Re: AndrewR's Basement Lab
Is that "hummm" or "HUMMM" ?
The rigging with EZ line is not that bad at all. Choose something easy to start with, like a Fokker Dr.1 or a Fokker DVII. They don't have much rigging, and you can get them cheaply as Revell boxings in 1/72, so if you mess up, you're only $8 down. The Dr.1 (the triplane) is also available from Revell as a 1.48 kit (an Eduard rebox, I believe), which would be that much bigger and a little easier to rig.
Anyhow, here is the first bit of work on the Gloster Gladiator, Revell, ex-Matchbox, and a CBK.
It needs a little work on the interior, I'll be adding some interior side details, an instrument panel and a parcel shelf behind the seat.
I didn't have time to do any more to this kit, because I was also working on the Triplane. The rest of the rigging is now done.
cheers

The Tripe and the Mustang are tops, Andrew!
Looking forward to seeing how the MB/Revell Gladiator turns out...
Was enjoying trying to identify all the assets Graham has committed to battle! Are these what he has built, or your 'ex-stock' items?
And what on earth (off earth?) are the ood? and what are they drinking...?
Cheers,
Asoka

The Ood are an alien race in the new Dr. Who series - see Jim's workshop thread for more ood jokes and general silliness.Asoka wrote:The Tripe and the Mustang are tops, Andrew!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ood;
Graham has an eclectic collection. Most of the builds are his own, some with a little assistance, but I have given him a few bits and pieces of mine (Airfix Airacobra for instance), and he has raided my stash on several occasions. There is also some die-cast stuff too. The ships are Revell 1.1200, and are all his own work.
cheers
