Very convincing!
Re: Dirk Pitt, The ADD Model Builders Workbench Space
Really like the weathering you did not the 55 Cameo pick up rat rod.
You have some really creative ideas and solutions in your builds like the windex! Also, cool idea how you added the texture to the Patton.
Keep'em coming!

Re: Dirk Pitt, The ADD Model Builders Workbench Space
The turret on the Patton was also forged just like the lower hull section. As you can see here the kit part is smooth
Using a stiff brush and Mr Surfacer I set to work on the turret
Here is what the turret looks like after a couple stipple coats of the Mr Surfacer. It still needs a few more coats
The turret has a very noticeable part missing, a hand grip/rail that follows along its side. I decided to put this part in place using stainless steel safety lock wire. I have loads of this stuff left over from my days working on aircraft.
I drilled holes in the turret an glued the wire in place
I think it looks much more gooder.
Thanks for taking the time to look at my work. Till next time...

Re: Dirk Pitt, The ADD Model Builders Workbench Space
Thanks for helping us out with the educational bits. I'll definitely be filing that texture method in my memory arsenal.
You are a fine modeller.

Re: Dirk Pitt, The ADD Model Builders Workbench Space
We got texture on the main body of the tank hull
Using parts from an empty can, some Evergren styrene and filler we replaced a couple of the kit fenders. Now with them in scale we can better represent operational damage
Now with the modifications completed its time for some paint. I like using craft acrylics.
For the first layer I used charcoal gray and some black. This will give me the color you see bleeding through chips and wear of the top color.
For this job I used Camel and medium yellow. About a 3 to 1 mixture. 3 Camel to 1 yellow.
The paint really makes the texture on the hull pop. I think its pretty damn close to the real thing
Lets make tracks

I agree with you regarding the hull texturing; that looks exactly like heavy cast steel
Best wishes

Thanks Paul for the kind words. That cameo found its way to a table on one of the largest model car shows in the states last weekend. A first for me.PGAS wrote:Really like the weathering you did not the 55 Cameo pick up rat rod.

Marvellous work with the Patton, Dirk, the texturing looks just right and the grab rails are an essential addition IMHO to make the turret look something like.
