That hull texture looks most convincing!
Well worth the effort.

Thanks David, I'm quite pleased with the results. I'm going to have to remember this technique when I tackle the Derelict from Lost in Space. The entire hull will need the same treatment

Once the color was applied I gave the entire tank a coat of future floor wax. This will give us a good base to work with when it comes to applying the decals and weathering. Another piece of detailing i'm adding are the periscopes that flank the top turret. I'm pointing to it in the picture. The kit just had bumps. I drilled them out and will add canopy glue to act as the lenses a little later on.

Image

I have some Verlinden stencils I could have used for the German crosses but opted for some spare decals I had lying around.

Image

More scrounging and I found these red numbers. I really like the way they look over the yellow. I broke out the White Magnolia paint to give some parts of the tank a bleaching effect by the sun

Image

More detail painting of the tank such as the gun barrels, and other fiddly bits such as the jerry cans. In this photo you can see how the top of the turret is a tad lighter then the sides and other flat spots on the hull...

Image

I started weathering the wheels

Image

The weathering is a combination of pastel chalks and washes

Image

Weathering includes, dirt, dust, soot, fuel and oil spills

Till Next time...

Yes indeed, the Patton is really coming to life now, that is a great build Dirk. I'm guessing the vehicle is being made as a Hollywood movie tank? I know a number of war films used Pattons in the role of German Panzers.
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Lovely work on the Patton; the weathering looks spot on, not too much but enough to give it that 'lived in' look
Best wishes

Its been some time since I posted here. I was a victim of the Photobucket policy change and it cost me my entire internet footprint at the time. Angry and not willing to try and reproduce all that I had made, I moved to the facebook and youtube modeling communities making videos of my builds but something brought me back. Lets see how it goes.

This build is the B-17G assembly ship called the "Black Bitch" from the 351st Bomb Group in Polebrook, 1945. She was originally known as "Lucky Strike." She was pulled from active duty after she tore off a main wheel after her 38th mission. As the groups assembly/ hack ship she was relegated to such grand tasks as collecting important items such as cases of Scotch and on one occasion the CO's wife to be.

The Box Art

Image

The Black Bitch at her final resting place in Kingman Arizona where many hero forts went to die.

Image

Here she is in color with the chin, top and ball turrets removed and patched. Before apply the black color I sprayed the entire tail section with light gray and applied a custom mask. I didn't want to use white as was the color of the triangle but in smaller scales like this the white would be to bright and not look right.

Image

Next step after the paint cures for a few more days I will do some weathering to some of the panels and some chipping to break up all that black paint and give it some more character. Also create a mask for that big blue "J" for the tail

Nice to see you posting again Dirk, and a nice build to jump back in with. The name 'Black Bitch', nothing to do with the CO's wife to be?

Looks so good in that scheme. Good thinking on the 'scaled down' white.
