Dirk Pitt, The ADD Model Builders Workbench Space

Post by Dirkpitt289 »

Like with my first Workbench thread I started off with photos of my workspace. Being a creature of habbit I decided to do the same here.

Unlike some of you with such grandiose work benches and spaces mine is at the back end of the finished part of my basement that I share with my 9 year old son and 3 year old twins. My bench is my sons air hockey table. It works for me but when it comes tournament time its a hassle.

Hi Dirk, I'd forgotten all about that 262! Almost finished now though eh? :)

Good to see I'm not the only one who labels the tops of his paint jars!

I had Photoetch for the antennas but totally botched them up cutting them from the tree. Now I can't seem to find the kit ones.

No where near as busy as most I'm told. People on other forums make fun of me because of my clean work bench.

Nice workspace you have there.

I agree with the sentiments about the Beau. Very nice. Look forward to seeing the B-17's aswell.

here are some more projects I have going on my bench

Not so long ago I took the plunge into the 1/144 scale arena. Partially out of necessity and partly because I felt I could use a quick down and dirty build to resurrect my lack of modeling mojo. The necessity part is like most I'm sure. I love the big bombers but don't have the space to display them. So I found a cheap $3 minicraft B-24 and built it into the assembly ship Tubarao of the 491st bomb group and gave it a whirl. While it may not be my favorite scale I'm hooked and have since purchased quite a few more aircraft in this scale.

For this particular build I will be building a B-17, a B-24 and a B-29.

The kits

Project #1 is the B-17. I had first planned to build it as Little Miss Mischief but after some legnthy time trying to create the tiny decals I had to toss in the towel. At this time i have no idea what this aircraft will be but theres still time so no big deal. I'm open to suggestions if anyone has any.

Project #2 is the B-24. This one is going to be another Assembly ship (I have a thing for assembly ships). This one is called The Striped Ape II of the 448th Bomb Group.

Project 3: Part three of this build cycle is going to come from the Pacific theater. its going to be the big and beautiful B-29 Superfortress. For this one I don't have a specific aircraft in mind (yet) but it's going to be one of the rarely seen and photoed Olive drab birds.

I started with the B-17 by removing the waist gunners windows.

The plastic surgery continues

Not to bad. I'll make up some glass later after its painted

Good lord this window is thicker then the actual B-17 windscreen.
