David's Ladywood Works

Post by Woodstock »

I've just been finishing off a 105mm light field gun and a Airfix Scimitar tank.
So I decided to start a Academy Mustang..

I love the box art, great cannon fire!.

As well as the P-51 there is a Willys jeep and trailer in the box.

I had to file about 2mm off the front of the jeep bonnet tonight, as it looked a bit silly with a big overhang over the grille.

Cheers.

I'm finishing it in RAF colours (Royal Air Force,Algeria , May 1943) using some model alliance decals.
There is not much available in 1/72 for early P-51's, I had to hunt about a bit for this one. I have the Italeri early P-51 but the Academy seems an easier build.

Cheers.

It's 1/72 the Academy part number is AC12401.

I joined the fuselage together last night, and cemented the wings on tonight.

They even give you a camera to fit behind the pilot.

Photobucket decided to chop the tail off when I resized the picture. I had to use my other camera, so it may be something to do with that :???:

Nice work on the cockpit. Are the seatbelts Tamiya masking tape? Is this OOB?

At the base of that wall, you'll find a rock that has no earthly business in a Maine hayfield. Piece of black, volcanic glass. There's something buried under it I want you to have.

Yep just Tamiya tape off the roll...don't know if I'm supposed to paint it first?.
Yes just straight out the box (I had to look in the glossery to find out what OOB means).......Sorry I'm not really with it yet.

A little update...

Academy P-51 now has a coat of Tamiya primer on it, I will give the upper surfaces a coat of Middle stone tommorow.

Image

The camo colours are Middle stone and Olive drab on the upper surfaces and Neutral Grey underneath.

The little jeep that came with the P-51 is coming along nicely. Not to sure about the colour of the seats, which is tamiya Khaki at the moment.

Brilliant work so far.
Re:tamiya tape seatbelts, you could paint them before adding them, its entirely up to you. Yellow might not always be the appropriate or correct colour.

As I was surfing through some of my Osprey books I stumbled across a particular Mustang that took my breath away. As it turns out its a P-51A model. So after some searching it seems this Academy kit is the most likely candidate. Thank you for turning me onto it.
