I know the problem.......

Beautiful model, beautiful plane,
Sometimes the talent consists exactly in that: try five dozen times when others stop at three dozen...! (F.Labelle)
I think that modeling is a subtle mix of zen philosophy and absolute crazyness - but in my case I would not dare to specify the respective percentage of each......

That Vimy is superb!
There is a certain elegance to the early 1900s designs and the triumph of man over the laws of physics!
Best wishes

I agree, things went more powerful, more brutish etc but the early designs are quite elegant. Very nice model.

That has turned out well Paul, a very impressive beastie. I've also recently suffered a similar fate of building a large-ish model (1/72 Lancaster) and then found I had nowhere to put it - the cabinet I had lined up and that I was sure it would fit into seemed to have shrunk one I tried to fit the completed model into it, or maybe the Lanc had grown. So much model, so little space

Still with us, Paul?

Went through all 20 pages of your work. Very inspiring.

Hope you're still out there and building.

Thanks for that. Yup, still here. Got a bit jaded with posting, I don't know why. I still visit now and then to keep up though. Building as usual, currently have 2 1/72nd LVG C.II (German WWI 2-seaters), a Copper State Caudron G.IV, and a 1/350 British K type sub from 1917 on the go, amongst other, less interesting things. Most recently finished a Polar Lights 1/1000 refit Ncc-1701, and an old AMT cutaway Enterprise, plus a bunch of Jet Provosts (new and old Airfix, and CMR). Here's a couple of shots from the last couple of months:

Glad to see your work again!

That's a lovely looking Aero engine. What did you paint it with?

I'm about to paint the engine on my Nieuport-17, and want to get it looking right.

It helps that it's 1/8th scale (Hasegawa). The cylinders are brush painted with Model Master Metalizer stainless steel, washed with an acryllic ink, Nuln Oil (Citadel). The rest is various bits and pieces I don't remember because I made it in fits and starts over a 10 year period, but they're probably Humbrol Metalcote colours. The black bits are from a Halfords spray can. The pushrods are bits of ancient magazine binders with the rust sanded off and sealed with a coat of Johnsons Klear. The plugs have some electical wire strands stuck to them, and the front of the crankcase is rub n buff pewter ( I wanted it to look a bit scuffed, which is just as well because I probably couldn't have got a smooth finish anyway).

Very pleased with it in the end, but it was a very good kit to start with.

I don't know you, sir (well, come to think of it, I only really know one other person here), but you have some really wonderful builds. The work on the engine and Vimy certainly caught my eye. Great work.
