Re: Skypirate's Hideaway
Getting better all the time, David. This project has thrown up some difficulties on the markings front but you are rising to the challenge admirably!
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Re: Skypirate's Hideaway
Thanks, chaps.
I am starting to feel normalcy return to my workbench after that long break. I usually have a few projects on the go.
So:
Airfix 1/144 VC-10 windows being filled (to be replaced with decals; RAF transport).
And the second of my 1/72 Bf 109 camouflage projects has hit the bench:
This is the Revell kit with many dodgy parts replaced from the old Heller Bf 109K kit (the dark grey pieces and all the glazing, including head armour). Plus Quickboost tailwheel, and Eduard PE. I chose the decal sheet just to get hold of some Luftwaffe numbers to match a profile in one of my references. Then this sheet shows the exact same aircraft (White 57) with entirely different colours! Aaarrgh!
I don't at all fancy my skill with PE and superglue, but I will try to use some of these fiddly bits.
Cheers,
David

Re: Skypirate's Hideaway
Nice one, another '109 on the go, looks like a G-10 in this case from the accessories (IMHO the old Heller 109K-4 is not a bad kit). I've built the Revell 1/48th G-10 and would recommend it if you do stray into quarter scale building - the kit can be found at a reasonable price over here. The differences between the colours suggested in the decals and those of your other references illustrate the difficulties often faced by those researching late war German camo schemes. 'Tis a minefield!

Re: Skypirate's Hideaway
Yep, it is a G-10. The Revell 1/48 kit is actually the old Monogram kit, long recognised as a very well-shaped G-10 for its era, and still holding its own.
I have been fiddling with the 1/72 fiddly bits:
PE part no. 20 actually has a bit of acetate film glued behind it, and that painted white on the back. Even now the detail is too small to see. But I will have the canopy open, so you can squint your hardest! The IP has the same treatment, and this is the first time I have layered styrene, acetate and PE together, using PVA glue, superglue and paint as the adherent.
So far so good! I will try to assemble (!) and use the PE seat belts before I resort to my usual paper versions.
Cheers,
David

Re: Skypirate's Hideaway
The 1/72 Harrier GR.1 build is nearly wrapped up.
I have added a home-made landing light to the nose wheel leg, and a tiny piece of acetate (not shown) to the camera window.
The only bits yet to go on are the two antennae behind the sliding hood, and the pair of wing tanks. I decided not to mount the outboard pylons, which led to having to fill and sand the mounting holes, touch up the roundels, etc, etc. I may have learned a lesson (it is never too late) - some decals, like all the roundels and fin flashes in this case, can be left till the very end, to avoid handling. There are no panel washes that affect these markings, and a modicum of post-shading can be added before the final gloss coat (again, in this case).
Thanks for looking,
David

Re: Skypirate's Hideaway
What a wonderful modelling job on the Harrier. Well done! With the camo finish, it is indeed a very pleasant model to view.

Re: Skypirate's Hideaway
Cracking job on the Harrier; you'd not think it was 1/72 unless told.
Best wishes
Jim
If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing

Hi, David. Sorry I missed you in DC. You got here at the same time as a perfect storm.
Good to see you back at the bench. That is one fine looking harrier.

Lovely Harrier David. I have made numerous attempts to build a Harrier and have never followed through to completion. It makes me envious to see your model. Nice work.
Just wondering how you painted the yellow stripe around the canopy?
