Re: Skypirate's Hideaway
Thanks, all. Very flattering!
The Aeroclub Hunter conversion is my first real use of vacform parts, ever, and I didn't even have to cut them out - they came that way (2nd hand). I did have to sand it all down. What a gentle introduction!
Still having fun!

Hi David,
The 'cats and the big Cat look super, but I love the BOAC 707! You should do a matching VC-10! :-)
Cheers!

Re: Skypirate's Hideaway
Happy New Year, fellow modellers!
Today I am happy to report that the Airfix 1/48 Jaguar is 99% done. Just some fiddly bits and canopy to mount. I will have some pictures for next post. That canopy has unfortunately taken a beating. It is separate from the windscreen, so can be posed open - but how??? Also, I have fiddled about with mirrors and grab handles and epoxy - and I wish I had a spare canopy! Right now a couple of simulated gas struts are drying on the canopy before I attempt the final mounting.
In the meantime the Matchbox Hunter T.7 has advanced quite a bit. Notice the gap on each side of the spine. I have put in a centre console and skinny side consoles. My Aeroclub white metal seats are a tight fit. I might pinch the seats from two Revell Hunters (those replaced with Pavla examples).
Nosewheel bay installed. I later narrowed the aft end.
Instrument panel installed. I can see already that the fairly flimsy acetate canopy is going to be 'interesting' to fit!
First signs of copious filler, plus intake vanes installed. Notice some reshaping of the fin bullet fairing.
This kit came to me with upper surfaces sprayed green.
All glued up and held in place. This was not confidence-building! The wing to fuselage join is virtually a butt join. I put in a paperclip dowel at the rear corner of the wing where there was some purchase for it. Also filled some spurious panel lines and scribed a few others.
After some cleaning up, and more filler touch-ups!
What's going on underneath? I don't think I will be trying to box in those wheel wells!
Next I will prime and check on all that filler! Aside from this:
The 1/72 Venom conversion has taken a distant back seat.
The de-sprued Matchbox Victor with those fearsome double raised panel lines is still awaiting my return.
FROG Firefly is painted, decalled and and weathered apart from the canopies, awaiting rocket armament.
A Revell 1/72 Hunter is expected to accompany the T.7 in construction.
I have pulled out the Airfix 1/48 Harrier GR.3 to follow the Jaguar (after the Jag, I couldn't face the Bucc yet!). But the kit decals are slightly out of register. Not many after-market examples for a 1/48 GR.3 that I can see. I may yet return the Harrier to the stash in favour of a quick win.
Thanks for looking!
David

Wow David, that Hunter conversion looks like a major project; had to go back a page to realise it's a vac-form conversion. Very ambitious, and looking forward to seeing it (along with the Jag). Happy New Year.

Hunter seems to be coming along nicely David. Look forward to seeing the Jaguar.
