Enjoy your trip David. Heading for the Northern Hemisphere at this time of year, getting away from the cooler weather

Re: Skypirate's Hideaway
Yes, Ralph!
We will be arriving in Washington on the 23rd, and leaving on the 26th.
Current plans are to visit NASM on the 24th, and Udvar-Hazy on 26th morning before we leave.
We are staying in Chantilly, and we will have a hire car.
Would love the opportunity to catch up and extend the Aussie-USA Summit.
Cheers,
David

Missed Ralph this time.
Presently at USA IPMA Nats for the next couple of days.
Many wonderful models, and even more threats to the stability of my stash!
Cheers,
David

Re: Skypirate's Hideaway
I'm back!
5 weeks away from the workbench! Time spent lurking in several aviation museums in the USA! (780 photos! But not specifically any walkarounds).
Here I am paying homage to 'Greased Lightning' at the SAC Museum in Ashland, Nebraska.
Picked up a very modest amount of loot from the 2017 USA IPMS Nats in Omaha, Nebraska.
Must get stuck back into that 1/72 Harrier GR.1 (to be completed and photographed by the end of this month for a Facebook group build).
Cheers,
David

Good to see you back and I'm glad you enjoyed the stateside experience. It's nice to see that the SAC museum lets punters get up close and personal with the exhibits, no rope barriers or any of that stuff!
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Re: Skypirate's Hideaway
At last, something to show after a long distraction.
The Esci 1/72 Harrier is just about ready for Alley Cat 233 OCU decals (with common bits from an old Microscale sheet).
I have added a tiny bulkhead(?) to the rear of the canopy, where the glazing ends. It is amazing how that section is never photographed or mentioned in 'how-to' books or articles. Anyway, I found some pics on the internet which confirm the need to close it off.
The other vague bit is the colour of the interior intake walls. I have applied Light Aircraft Grey, with the external camo colours wrapped around the lip. So the lower surface camo colour is the same as the intake interior colour and I have not extended the wrapped-around camo colour all the way to the bottom of the intake.
The nosewheel will gain a landing light at a later stage.
Thanks for looking,
David

That's shaping up to be quite a beauty!
The paint work is most excellent.

That is a really great looking Harrier, David. Top bit of observant research regarding the canopy bulkhead thingy as well - Google Images is one of my best modelling mates!

Re: Skypirate's Hideaway
All the decals are on. The Alley Cat decals are commendably fine, but the insignia red was easily damaged, requiring touch-up for a couple of decals.
There is one deficiency. Where do I get the warning triangles for the wing pylons? These are bordered in white, as far as I can discern, and I have no suitable decals of that size - small enough to fit on each side of the pylon. I notice I have them on my old Hasegawa GR.3! And they are on the Italeri GR.3 decal sheet, too.
I suppose I could hand-paint something. Very fiddly.
Hmmm....must trawl though the decal spares.
Cheers,
David

Re: Skypirate's Hideaway
Nothing suitable in the decal spares. So I have painted white triangles on the pylons and will add the red interiors next.
I discovered that apart from clumsy handling, the Alley Cat decal colours (roundel blue and red) can be damaged by Mr Mark Setter. Blue has been touched up in the photo.
So far the decals on this model came from four sources - Esci kit, Microscale, Alley Cat and Revell! I do think the 233 OCU markings are quite distinctive. There are more options on that sheet, including 2-seaters.
The nose probe broke off and succumbed to the carpet monster some time ago. Many other antennae and dump tubes are yet to be added (and painted!)
Thanks for looking,
David
