Rubbish! Yours looks like a nicely weathered winter finish.
Mine was specified as all-over RLM76, which was sufficiently unusual to get my attention. This kind of scheme was used by high-altitude interceptors and night-fighters (!?), and possibly when they ran out of other paint!

Don't get distracted by the earlier Fw-190 model chaps! The 109 is where the action is.
Major painting is complete, and I am pretty chuffed with the way it has come out.

Image

The green looks unnaturally bright in the 2nd photo. What is left is to paint the wheels, the white spinner with black spiral and general weathering.
Notice the gap under the port exhausts. The area around that is slightly sunken (compared to the starboard side, as you can see) - not glaringly, and I think it is a bit short shot! It is the same on another kit in the stash! I will try to fix it on both! There are a couple of serious deficiencies with this kit - solid air scoop (can be fixed), misshapen prop (must be replaced, IMHO). Otherwise, quite neat.

Thanks for looking,

David

That '109 really looks great, David, the masking certainly did its job!

Excellent job David. I don't I have ever built a Me 109 but I might have a go now. Looking forward to your next up date.
Cheers

Good grief, Ian, I had a look at your photos and, yes, there is a big gap - no 109!
Seriously, you are a terrific scale modeller and photographer. You will have no trouble with any 109. (But you may need a new range of paint colours!)

Sneak preview!
Port exhaust stack under-fairing repaired, on its u/c, ready for decals:

Noticed a bit late that the aileron trim tabs are missing from this kit. Any addition will be so flimsy, that I will leave it to last.

And those pesky little mass counterbalances too! I always leave them for last when building a 109 as well.

Thanks, Shaun.
The 109 no longer looks as pristine as above. Far from it!
Decals are on. H Models decals performed well, just need a little care to float them on to allow final positioning. Stencils came from the kit (Revell, 1996, very matt decal film). These, too, behaved well.
The top row of photos show the weathering achieved with paint shades and oil streaking applied with a brush, and panel wash in major panels and control surface hinge lines.

Image

The lower row of photos shows the result of airbrushed Tamiya X-19 Smoke, much diluted, for post-shading and exhaust staining.
And also the loss of one mainwheel leg. This will be a %$#@&! to reattach strongly.

With all the fiddly bits looming, I am starting to feel the urge to start another kit!

Cheers,

David
