Re: Skypirate's Hideaway
Indeed that is very narrow, David. This type of decal is my least favourite of all, rarely have I applied a cheat line or wing walk decal without them tearing during the manoevering process despite always handling them with kid gloves
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Re: Skypirate's Hideaway
All the tricky decals are now on the VC10. Two-Six decals are very, very thin. On the plus side you can not see any carrier film. On the down side, sliding the decal off the backing sheet can stretch and distort the decal! So there was a fair bit of sweating and cussing yesterday. Close inspection will reveal a few spots where I was lucky to save the decal. There was only one spare door frame decal, which I did not need. Just have to do the fin flashes and serials today, plus paint the anti-glare panel.
On the Javelin front, so to speak, this may give you some idea why the Airfix nose is more 'svelte' than the kit.
I will attempt to blend the fuselage into the nose dimensions!
Thanks for looking,
David

Re: Skypirate's Hideaway
You could consider splitting the nose and shimming the rear to better match the rest of the kit. Worth taking your time blending the nose in, it's the bit of my build that I feel I could of done better.

Those thin decals sound very stressful. I bet you're glad the cheatlines are all finished.
Svelte is not an adjective that comes to mind in regards to the Gloster Javelin :-).

Good idea James. I will play around with that.JamesPerrin wrote:You could consider splitting the nose and shimming the rear to better match the rest of the kit. Worth taking your time blending the nose in, it's the bit of my build that I feel I could of done better.
Thanks!
VC10 decals are all done! Woohoo! It is looking good! Just a little paint touching up to finish it. Hopefully next week.

Re: Skypirate's Hideaway
Now that the VC10 is off the bench (photos in Aviation Modelling pages), I am back to wrestling with the Javelin and the GB Hunter.
Here is the Javelin being hacked up to fit the better parts from the demolished Airfix kit.
Once I get these fitted and the fuselage closed up I can shim the nose as James suggested.
Thanks for looking,
David

Been cavorting in the sunshine, food and wine at Manly, NSW.
But I took some model work with me!
The Javelin nose and fuselage have been mated. Photos when I get home after the weekend.
Cheers for now,
David

That Javelin is putty in your hands....
... no I really mean those fuselage halves look like they a made from clay rather than plastic, can't believe how thick they are. A chisel might have been the best tool.

A lot of effort going into that but looks good.

Very much enjoying this amalgamation of the two kits, possibly even more than you are David!
I have a Javelin built in the cabinets, but I'm blowed if I can remember whose it was....I suspect Frog

Looks like the nose has made the transition to its new home well
