Re: Skypirate's Hideaway
Taking shape...
Considering how crisp the parts look in the box, there is lots of filler required in seams, ejector pin marks and sink holes.
For a change, this model in OCU markings will bear no weapons; just the under-fuselage strakes and wing tanks. The gun pods and Sidewinders and launch rails go in the spares box.
It is unusual for me to have just one model on the go. That is a measure of present distractions. Plus I will be holidaying in the USA for all of July!
Thanks for looking,
David

Great looking Hurricane, looks to be a lot of work done / to be done on the Harrier but looking good
A start on my first kit a Hawker Hurricane as been made, a spitfire awaits in the wings and thinking about models to come.
Modelling space in shed coming along nicely.

The Harrier is coming along.

Re: Skypirate's Hideaway
The flow lines in the plastic look reminiscent of some old Airfix kits!
Looks like you're making good progress with it

Re: Skypirate's Hideaway
The Harrier has had undersurfaces painted.
And a new project has hit the bench!
THREE Airfix VC10s!
1. One for me - in RAF transport colours from TwoSix decals. Work has commenced:
Windows sealed off for model putty applied from the other side. The decal sheet provides all the windows, doors, etc...very neat. Fuselage HDU lopped off and styrene card applied to begin the filling process. That piece of card has been braced as well. I think this one will be wheels-up to go with my 707 and Comet 4.
2. For a friend who grew up on Nigeria Airways VC10s - will probably be finished in vintage BOAC markings. Waiting for the F-DCAL decals. Not started yet.
3. For the same friend - a restoration of a rescued model:
Not sure how this one will be finished.
Thanks for looking,
David

Yes; this is more like it!dollar19 wrote:Looks to me like you have a bit of work on your hands.
Absolutely laborious masking completed on the Harrier. Oops - no! Still have to do the wing tanks! Aaarrgh!
Trap for young players - I notice that the new Sword kits do not illustrate the camouflage extending over the leading edges to the underside.
cheers,
David

Re: Skypirate's Hideaway
Good progress being made with this little lot, David. Hopefully you will have a better time with F-DCAL than I did. Two or three years ago I attempted to use one of their sets in order to finish an Airfix B-737 in Olympic Airways livery. The decals were extremely fragile and try as I might I couldn't stop the bloody things breaking apart with the result that ultimately I was unable to finish the model as planned.
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Thanks for the tip, Shaun.
I will first cover those decals in Micro Decal film and hope for the best!
cheers,
David

Re: Skypirate's Hideaway
I really like the VC10 restorations going on. I have a Comet 4c I think that I semi restored a few years go in imaginary airline livery.

Nice work on the Harrier, masking is something I hate with a passion.
Re: Skypirate's Hideaway
This may seem like a silly question, but what is Micromask fluid?

Re: Skypirate's Hideaway
Here it is. It is the same size as the Micro Sol and Micro Set bottles.celt wrote:This may seem like a silly question, but what is Micromask fluid?
I have never 'cut to shape' as suggested on the bottle, since I would be nervous about scoring the plastic beneath. I simply peel it off. In this case when I pull off the blu-tack, the masking should mostly come off with it.
So this is relatively easy to apply, but there will be some fussiness removing it from nooks and crannies where it sinks in and dries.
And here is the Xtracolour dark green airbrushed on.
I will remove all the masking tomorrow.
Thanks for looking,
David

That's looking great; I'll be interested to see how the masking comes off
Best wishes
