Nice cockpit in the 105 David.

OCD has kicked in. I have mounted a pair of instruments internally on the windscreen frames. Each of those is about 2mm long including the mounting bracket.



The windscreen is now mounted and it looks quite effective. I am quite keen to get the model on its undercarriage.

To attach those tiny pieces securely (fingers crossed!) to the canopy frame, I had to use a tiny spot of polystyrene cement applied with a toothpick.
The windscreen has since been mounted, with white glue, and has been dislodged though handling - but the instruments on the frame are still there!
The hardest parts in the assembly of this old classic are the undercarriage parts - apart from the undercarriage legs, nothing else has positive mounting. Maybe it was easier in the 1/48 kit.

Yikes. Butt-joints and silver paint? That would end up a giant gooey mess in my hands.

Very nicely done, David. The tiny additions to the cockpit glazing are excellent too, I try to control my own AMS but it often gets the better of me!

The 1/72 F-105F is now all together. I had a late minor disaster when it turned out that the wing tanks mounted in the appropriate holes in the wings were toed-in a couple of degrees! Huh? I wasn't expecting that. Could not live with it looking like that so I tore them off, patched the mess as best I could and re-installed them. Phew! Just don't inspect closely underneath!

They are PP Aeroparts paper tags. I have had a set each of 1/72 and 1/48 for many years. Should have bought more when they were around!

The Thud is now completed and presented in the the Aviation Modelling pages.

Work has resumed on the Airfix 1/144 VC10. The engine cowlings had a dreadfully moulded gap between the two engines. No wonder there are aftermarket resin parts on offer. I tried carving a solid triangular piece of styrene to fill the gap. Too fiddly to fit and clean up. A styrene strip all round the inside of each cowling was the answer.

Let's recap on the Airfix starter set Zero A6M2b.



Started many months ago, and finally getting some attention (along with the Airfix 1/72 Gnat, Hasegawa 1/72 P-47D Razorback, Airfix VC10, and secret what-if project).



Masked and ready for painting, as per instructions from the other boxing, which specifies Hemp (as a reasonable match) for the overall colour, and a 50/50 mix of coal black and midnight blue for the engine cowling. Sounds good to me!



Looks like I have pushed aside my distractions, for a while at least!

I've used a similar dodge in the past to hide those awkward join lines in airliner engines, David. That Airfix Zero is a nice looking kit and I'm kicking myself for failing to pick one up at the Telford show last weekend. One was on my mental shopping list and I forgot - note to self: next time write it down!
