Thats some very nice masking. I've always wanted to do an aircraft in this scheme, but matching the cheatline to the masking scares the life out of me!!!

Thanks, chaps. The VC10 is obviously a very popular subject!
I still haven't 'tested' the cheatline decal, but the template for the mask (traced from the decal) gives some encouragement!

Next I will hand-paint the front rim of the engines nacelles silver. I tested a few different silvers.
A brand new tinlet of Humbrol 11 bears no relation to the chrome 'Met 11' sticker on the lid. It is a very light grey matt silver.
Mr.Hobby MrMetalColor 218 Alinume is also matt and much paler, closer to silver.
The old Testors 1146 Silver in the square bottle is the most silver of this lot.

Cheers,

David

Got to second Ken's comment. You're producing a beautiful rendition of an aircraft I have huge soft spot for.

I worked on VC-10s for the MOD at RAF St.Athan in the 1990's in a structural technical support role. I was an airframe structures technician on the amusingly titled "Beaver" project. It relates to parts of the engine nacelle; the piece between the engines on each nacelle is known as the "beaver tail" and we removed these, together with the intakes and completely refurbished them, they basically left us as "new" components with a fully restored service life. We even had authority to manufacture our own parts. I loved working there and the team I was in was outstanding, so anytime I see a VC-10 in any scale, including 1:1, it always brings back those memories and makes me smile. :)

That is a great story, Dazzled!
I can appreciate the empathy you have for a wonderful aeroplane.

Finally masked the 1/72 Gnat T.1. Dayglo colour can go on after I mask the anti-glare nose panel.

Thanks for looking,

Gnat, Gnat? What's happened to your sense of priority, David? Where's the finished VC-10?????? Only the most beautiful airliner ever and you're doing a stunning job on her.

Oops!
Been doing some fiddly painting on the nacelles. Have no fear, we will return to that program momentarily.

Cheers,

David
