TeeELL’s New ‘cubby hole’ (and 3D) creations.
I have decided that, with the kitchen table relinquished and a modelling den created, it is time to re-boot.
My builds from my old Workbench Window will continue here.

Thanks Stuart.
I will be revealing the Hawk II upper wing soon. I just hope the paint is OK this time.

Well, I am back to the same stage as I was on 15th Feb and, if I am honest, I really wish I had left well alone! The colours have been reapplied and are no better than they were - but it will have to do as I’m not going through all that again.
Here is the current state of play:
In approximate position:
I now need to start feeding the rigging wires through before cementing the upper wing in place.

The top wing looks fine, Tony, crack on, this should end up being a great looking Curtiss Hawk.

Re: TeeELL’s ‘cubby hole’ creations.
I have threaded the rigging through the top wing:
Next task is to cement the outer struts into the upper wing. As you know from LMs amazing work, lining up the struts can be challenging but my use of templates to set the struts at 30 deg to the wing has resulted in them lining up darn near perfectly with their corresponding holes. I just need to check the mating surface on the fuselage for the cabane struts ( doh! I was supposed to do that before rigging).

That's coming on very nicely indeed, and from where I'm sitting your misgivings seem to be unfounded
Best wishes

That's looking great, Tony. Good luck with the rigging

Re: TeeELL’s ‘cubby hole’ creations.
I have used cyno for the wing struts so that should be set very shortly. The rigging has tape on the end to stop it slipping back through the holes. My plan now is to fit the cabane struts and then start tensioning and securing the rigging. Probably not tonight though as I am giving a career talk/presentation on my career on ‘Teams’ to a bunch of Air Cadets!

Re: TeeELL’s ‘cubby hole’ creations.
Well, the one thing you cannot trust is that rigging will behave! I found one line had aligned itself perfectly with one strut and was in the cyno, another line decided to wrap itself around a strut. Neither were unresolvable and the final pair of rigging lines were threaded. Phew!

The wing looks fine to me Tony - any very tiny blemishes should be resolvable with a brush if you think the effort worth it. In any event it is extremely colourful and eye-catching and infinitely better than many of us could do. Oh the rigging... glad that you have that under control - just hope that you can get the cabanes in without damaging the paintwork. This is going to be one impressive model.

Re: TeeELL’s ‘cubby hole’ creations.
LM,
The cabanes will be positioned and attached to the fuselage with Tamiya Extra Thin and to the wings, possibly UV activated glue to give me flexibility whilst positioning things.
