Chuck's very untidy corner of the table.

Post by Chuck E »

Currently toying with all manner of DC-3 shaped plastic pieces for the Group Build, but popped the thread here so that you can see it on the new site. This is the old Nitto 1/100th DC-3. No instructions and no glazing, but extra fuselage bits for the C-47. It's a very neat little kit with lots of internal bits that I'm not using, 'cos you can't see 'em. Some more here . . . . http://www.flickr.com/photos/23594891@N ... 316174202/;

Haven't seen that one before, in fact I don't recall seeing any Nitto products around here (Toronto). Which decals will you be using?

I'll use the Trans Canada decals. I had the model sprayed up with a white top as shown and then found that this version was all silver. :???: I had no instructions for it as it came in a poly bag of bits. The decal sheet has the logo 'Modelcraft' on it and features two Daks, a C-47 and a DC-3. It has two sets of fuselage halves too. I'm wondering if it was a special Canadian issue. Any ideas folks ? The kit includes other extras, such as a full set of skis and alternate nacelles and props. It's a really nice little kit. I seem to remember NITTO making a USAAF WWII C-47 in European markings and also a civil scheme. I will really have to look these out and see if I can obtain a few.

Here it is with Halford's Aluminium and a coat of Klear, plus a little colour wash on the engines.

In this earlier shot you can see the internals, which I didn't bother to fit, as they would be lost in there.

And here is my almost forgotten Canberra. Finally out of primer and a coat of Xtracolour enamel. All hand brushed, as usual.

Thanks for the kind comments chaps. Here is a new Spitfire from airfix, WIP. 2.5 hours to this point.

The painting by brush is easy enough if you prime the model first and thin the Xtracolour enamel a little. A retarder would be good if I had one. I just use a large brush with big bristles. ( Calm down OT ! ) Don't go over the first layer too quickly. Aeromaster is the best I've ever used for hand painting, but Xtracolour is very close and has a nice gloss finish too. The Canberra has a single coat of grey and then a single coat of Dark Green. The underside looks nicer with two coats.
