Martin R's Musings
Martin R's Musings
OK, so maybe not musings, exactly, but at least it's alliterative. Anyhoo, the only modelling that I've been doing is to progress my Matchbox Wimpey that was not finished in time for the SKGB. So, here is where it's at - after numerous spray coats of Citadel skull white followed by a light sanding with used 1500 grit wet n' dry and then 4 coats of Xtracrylix DSG. I've used Aeroclub Hercules cowlings together with late-style Beaufighter spinners from the Hasegawa kit. I also liberated a set of wheels from one of my Trumpy Wimpeys, and beefed them up a bit with some sheet styrene between the halves. Hopefully, this will improve the look of the beast when finished.
Apologies for the colour balance of the photo and the fruit bowl in the background. However, progress is being made, and soon I'll be able to go back to the filler-fest that is my Italeri Invader . . .
More soon, hopefully.
regards,
Martin

Thanks chaps,
And after a quick coat of Xtracrylics EDSG, roughly following the pic on the back of the box that John and Paul provided, we have:
Better colour balance, but that darn fruit bowl has still managed to sneak into the background.
Still, there's something very meant about the EDSG / DSG / White colour scheme. Another couple of coats of grey, then I need to whip the masking off and start to touch up the white <Gulp>!
regards,
Martin

Looks good. You could paint camo on the fruit bowl to disguise it.

Re: Martin R's Musings
Folks,
After a slight hiatus caused by me joining an attempt to climb the 3 highest peaks in England, Wales and Scotland last weekend (we managed Scafell Pike and Snowdon, but we only got up to 3500ft on the 4400ft Ben Nevis, being defeated by driving snow).
Anyway, another coat of EDSG is on the Welly and I have taken off the masking. Some touching up of the white will be required, but its not looking too bad. Canopies are only dry-fitted at the moment, and I have the frame lines to do. Should these be white in their entirety - or EDSG / DSG - or both, following the demarcation?
As you can see, I have also camouflaged the fruit bowl as suggested by Dirk

Ta for your post, Chris.Chris wrote:She is coming along quite well Martin, a wimpy is a great project.
The Wimpey was originally started as part of the Matchbox Wellington SKGB, which I didn't finish. Now, a couple of months later, I'm trying to get the momentum back to finish. I want to start some new projects, but I feel I should make a dent in the backlog first.
As well as the Wimpey, I've got on the go:
Italeri A-26A/B (filler-fest with main construction complete and ready for masking / painting)
Italeri Bf109G-6 (need some decent wheels to get the interest back to finish this)
Airfix Bf110C (half-finished but with paint stripped back and lots of little bits to do).
Airfix F-5E (need to finish the Aggressor scheme)
What I'd like to start, but can't :
Airfix Hampden (TB.1 in CC colours)
USAAF Matchbox A-20G in Invasion stripes
RAF Airfix A-20C also in Invasion stripes - D-day smoke layer
Airfix club kit (F-86F / MiG-15 combo)
Airfix Spitfire IX / XIX cross-kit to produce PR.XI and XIV
Airfix Whirlwind for the Rhubarb GB

Martin

Re: Martin R's Musings
That's quite a list of projects you have there. I would love to see how the Spitfire cross kit turns out.
Wimpey is looking very nice.

Paint job looks very neat. It'll come alive though when you add the decals.

Twas me...
The Wimpey looks good (spelling checker attempts to insult Vickers by changing it to "Wimpy" ).
Cheers
