Beanys Bench
I was convinced I already had a bench thread, but can't find it so here is a new one. I just wanted to show that I haven't forgotten my Secret Santa build - far from it - it is just taking a tad longer than I had expected, largely due to the paints I chose being hues rather that primary colours and thus needing multiple coats to get a satisfactory finish. Here are the progress pictures to date. I've set myself a nominal target of this build only stretching from one Christian festival to the next, hence Easter 2013
I know what you are thinking - yes, it is a little dull at the moment, but hopefully once the decals are on it will bring it to life more!!
cheers
Al.

Oooh, my eyes, my eyes!
Looking like candy, eye-candy.
Is that a real scheme? And what aircraft is it?

Confused as always, and somewhere in hiding on the Scandinavian peninsula...
Re: Beanys Bench
It's a groovy marketing idea from the 60's/70's Prisca, not a real scheme as such. Although I think if a plane did have this colour scheme it would make for a great defensive scheme!

Re: Beanys Bench
Nice one Beany. It is a bit dull though, maybe the decals will help as you suggested.

Revell 1/32 Messerschmitt Bf110-G-4 Nightfighter
Like most of my kits, this one has lain started but forgotten in my stash for several years. I decided to have another go and thus started with the cockpit. The short bulkhead thingy behind the pilot would have just appeared as a flat panel with a crevice in it (which is the radio set moulded onto the other side) so I stretch a bit of sprue for some fictitious cable/pipes and added a couple of equally fictitious panels.
I am not an accurate scale modeller and so just go for an impression of detail and weathering to the best of my ability - which is limited! This usually just entails some basic dry brushing that I've seen many of you guys employ. Progress so far...
The instrument panel decal isn't too bad I think considering the vintage of the kit (the instructions I have say @1994 by Revell AG, although I know the 1/32 Bf110 has been around since the 70's). I've left the other side panel off just to get these photos, and glued it in place immediately afterwards.
The kit does come with three crew figures which again aren't too bad, but I shall paint them and save them for use elsewhere, as I tend to do almost all of my aircraft models wheels up, in flight, and therefore always seem to be short of acceptable pilot figures. I've painted the tyres a lighter grey which from photos of real Luftwaffe planes and other peoples models seems to be right . All painting in these photos has been done using Revell Aqua paints which I quite like for brush painting, after adding a few drops of Winsor & Newton Acrylic Flow Enhancer and a few drops of water (from a jam jar with a little Screen Wash added to break the surface tension).
The usual problem with the wheels is that the Oleo legs are fully extended rather than compressed to show the weight of the aircraft - I don't intend to correct this however.
Cheers
Al.

Cheers Daryll. Yes mate, a Bf110 - I also posted this on the Revellations site where the kit was in the thread title, so I've just edited my post above to include it.

Re: Beanys Bench
That's looking very good Al and goes to show that there is plenty of life left in some of these old kits if you give them a bit of TLC. I have the old 1/48th Fujimi 110 C/D/E (I think those are the versions that can be built from the kit ) in the stash and although it is now outclassed by the newer Eduard offerings I think it is still worth a punt.

Re: Beanys Bench
Nice one Al, the engines and cockpit look great.
I didn't realise there was a 1/32 Revell 110, they certainly produced a few 1/32 kits.
Cheers
Jim
