That Spitfire is coming along nicely - pity about the decals though. Early Hornby Airfix ones were notorious for doing that, so well done on the save.

That Airfix 109 looks very businesslike!
One secret to mottling that I am slowly learning is that the colour of the mottle looks better when it is a lighter shade (of whatever colour). So with an airbrush you lighten it and/or airbrush very lightly (not a dense application). I have not mastered this yet!

cheers,

Things are all turning to schmitt over here  Here's another one

The sprues

Construction begins

The Hasegawa gets more paint. Again I used the sponge method of applying the fuselage camouflage. Looks ok in this scale  Just the splinter on the wings, and this is nearly done.

Very nice looking 109's.

The paint looks good, I'll have to try that technique on my 262. I have used cotton buds in the past with a roll on/roll off action.
Stuart Templeton I may not be good but I'm slow...

Top work with this trio, Nigel. I find mottling to be so difficult in this scale as there is so little working room but your approach here looks good to me.

All three are looking good! I hate mottling, and tend to stick to plain schemes to avoid it.....
Best wishes

That looks really good Nigel - It's a very interesting camo pattern on the wings.

Thank you SirT. The dark green patch on the starboard wing should be larger, it's mostly hidden under the decal :-| but the pattern approximates the instructions :)
Here is the Hasegawa kit, ready for the addition of the small bits and a matt varnish

Image

Image

The swastikas came with the kit so that dates it a bit. After the fragile decals on the Spitfire, I was a bit more careful with these, and applied the bottom wing crosses first. The first one split, but not too bad. I was extra careful after that
The Airfix kit progresses

Image

Not sure why the cowling is a separate piece? There is no engine to add.

Tried the sponge technique on the Heinkel

Image

Calling that a fail  I think I need to use a different sponge. Used a piece of the girls make-up sponge on the 109. his time I tried some sponge used as packing material from something electrical. I'll paint over this and start again.

The sponge technique might not be as effective on the relatively large expanses of the Heinkel's surfaces, Nigel - what scheme are you aiming to finish it in?
