Re: Clashcityrockers Stage
Thanks Dollar, Shaun, and Ian. I saw Dunkirk last Sunday. Not quite what I was expecting, but a good film with some nice cinematography. Alas, no Imax theatre in Adelaide I already had the Heinkel and Messerschmitt on the go, but maybe subconsciously I pulled another Spitfire from the stash
Here is the 109. Mottled using a small piece of sponge dipped in paint and dabbed on the model
Not quite the soft small irregular shapes shown on the instructions, but better than I expected I added the small loop aerial from twist tie wire.
And the Spitfire starts to come together
Nigel

NIgel, bud that 109 looks the berries! My guess is the mottling will tone down some after a couple of clear coats and the final flat coat. But if you think it's too stark or will be after all the clears go on, you might consider a rub down with with a paper towel or a piece of news print. On the other hand you could give it a misting of the underside blue A LIGHT MISTING mind you. So much for my half baked suggestions......
I think you nailed it.
The Spitty is coming together nicely too.
Greg ... I might have to amend this to Greg 2.

The mottling looks good to me!
Best wishes

That mottling looks good - The only time I've ever done it I used a cotton bud.
Can't say I fancy the new film - Hard to beat the old black and white Dunkirk.

Stuart Templeton I may not be good but I'm slow...

Mottling looks good to me, although I do like Greg's suggestion of a thin overcoat of the blue, it would help soften the edges of the mottles a bit, I think.
I recently came across this, which looks like a good, alternative way of doing mottles.

Re: Clashcityrockers Stage
Many thanks for the replies and suggestions gents, but as this was brush painted I've left it as is.
I would have liked to have seen your technique Migrant, but all I see is a big blank space
Next time I'll rotate the sponge as I apply the paint, that way all the shapes won't be the same
Anyway got the rest of the decals on
And the Spitfire gets a first coat of Humbrol 23 on the undersides

Re: Clashcityrockers Stage
A great effort with the Gustav, Nigel, mottling can be very difficult in the smaller scales but I think you've pulled that off rather well.
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.
