Asoka's Antique Table...revisited!

Post by Asoka »

The antique table is still holding up!

(The previous episodes of the antique table saga can be read here..http://gregers.7.forumer.com/viewtopic. ... sc&start=0)

Last on the old thread was the Heller F-86F Sabre for the group build, here with the drop tanks added...

I had a few days holiday, and decided to drag out a Matchbox F-104G which I had started a few months back, which unfortunately had an argument with a vicious rattle can of silver paint and lost!

Gently sanded off the offending gunk,

and hand painted with my now famous wood primer!
Image

The wings and stab went on easily, and I was looking forward to the decaling, as they were looking good despite the age and had not yellowed, what fun was in store!
Image

As soon as they were in the water, the adhesive turned into a whitish goo, and came off in strings, like chewing gum
Had to wash each decal clean in the water dish, and after placing, slap on a coat of 'Wet Look' which is the local equivalent of Klear. The big decals were pretty simple, but for some reason Matchbox had decided to include all kinds of tiny stencils in this kit, and boy were they good fun! The 'No Step' stencils nearly had me bust a blood vessel!

But after the theatrics, they looked pretty good...

And now the 'Manned Missile' is facing off it's Russian counterpart! (The Mig was built about 30 years ago, when I was in school)

Everything is looking good. The F-86 came out great. I especially I love the F-104. I have the same kit in my stash desitned to become a Canadain "Red Indian"

Great collection there. Always liked the Matchbox 104.
Besting 60 years of mediocre building of average kits in the stand off scale

I agree with Jeff, Matchbox 104 is quite an enjoyable little kit. Yours looks pretty good! :)

Actually I have both the Matchbox and HASEGAWA F-104's. My plan is to build them side-by-side.

Thanks, Dirk, Jeff, Marek!

I too love Matchbox kits, brings back so much memories...

Except the Sabre, the other are Matchbox, and the Harrier is also an antique, built when in school.

Would love to see the comparison! The Starfighter, very unusually for Matchbox, was a bit fiddly with the belly and the tail section all on one joint, and no locating pins, lugs, or anything. :???: Even the nose cone didn't have anything to align it.
But enjoyable, none the less!

I'm looking at that aluminium wood primer and thinking it might be just the thing for P-51 wings.
Would ya like to learn to fly? Would ya? Would you like to see me try?

What I use is from AkzoNobel (ICI) Since most of the BMF planes were painted silver (or so I've read!) it looks okay for most stuff. :)

Wanted to do a quick and dirty build, so got this Airfix Kittyhawk out of the stash. Can't get more quick and dirty than this! :-D

The 'trees' and other bits and pieces which were rattling around the box...

Got the old boy painted up. He seems to have a small problem with his stomach, mainly as its not there!

...and painted the uppers with H84 'Mid stone'

Parked temporarily in the 'holding pen'

That's not a bad move painting parts before gluing, I have done that in the past. Will be good to see when you have it completed.

Love the Starfighter.

Ah, the good old Airfix P-40E, built a few of those over the years.

When hand painting I think its easier to do most of the painting on the sprues, and then touch up afterwards. Not much progress, will post some more pics as soon as something gets done! :)
