Whatever the shortcomings, it looks nice.

Re: Fearless Frankie's Foibles
Nice finish, I finished mine just in time for the Huddersfield show. Used Airfix's markings for a mid 60s bird. I'm going to use these markings on the Airfix kit.

Re: Fearless Frankie's Foibles
I know I started another Foibles elsewhere, but that is down to a senior moment. Heres something we are doing at the moment that I wish I had never started, after the Harrier I fancied something with whirly bits on the front, well as you can see the two greens have hardly any definition,Stripes could have been masked better (two bloody hours believe it or not) and a little overspray that need tidying. On the table is an Eagles Talon B6N vac with less issues and better fitting. Well the 451 will just be blitzed through to get it finished. Nice to be doing a bit again and posting on here

Re: Fearless Frankie's Foibles
It's a good looking aircraft though Frankie. Masking is a bit of a pain and I can well believe two hours was spent on that, I would wager that I'd spend longer

Re: Fearless Frankie's Foibles
This has been going on for a good few months. It is the Eagles Talon Nakajima B6N Its gone together really well and there have been very few vices along the way, doing it with wheels up (couldn't be 4r5ed this time) but having said that there was the mouldings in the sheets for boxed off wheel wells, panel lines finely moulded but cockpit glazing was very brittle ansd we have got to try and hide a small split in it.
As for the Leo 451, just tried the stickers! and do they just do that. Like sticky brown stuff to a blanket! Copious amounts of water to try and get them in position, curled, split, folded over you name it they have done it. shall post pictures when and if I get them all on.
Going only slightly better but do they take some water to move them about, printed by Aviprint, sorry not too impressed. Colour saturation not the greatest as you can see on the roundles, still this is one that the sooner its completed the better

Re: Fearless Frankie's Foibles
The Leo actually looks terrific. It is unusually rare model (I have seen only one built ever) in terms that everyone shies away .

Re: Fearless Frankie's Foibles
Well apart from a little touch up underneath,Crystal Clearing the gondola windows and a few ariel wires I'm calling it done.
The kit was riddled with flash, poor fittings galore, decals we mentioned earlier. Built along sidevthe Nakajima vac, no guessing for which I enjoyed the most, oH its just getting ready for stickers so pictures to follow.

Paint job on Leo it's Amazing.
Bravo.
Bravo.
Sometimes the talent consists exactly in that: try five dozen times when others stop at three dozen...! (F.Labelle)
I think that modeling is a subtle mix of zen philosophy and absolute crazyness - but in my case I would not dare to specify the respective percentage of each......

Re: Fearless Frankie's Foibles
Disappointment 1
Now being we spend some time away at weekends,I thought why not knock up as simple travel kit box, duly done a few new bits obtained, scalpel, sidecutters and the rest just hanging around off we went to the stash. First up was the Mastercraft Mig 19s (ex KP ) came as a job lot! Bearing in mind its only a month ago that there PZL beat me into submission and ended in the bin, (only the second ever to do that) To say the fit is poor is beyond belief, If ever I come across another MC kit it goes straight in the bin, but persevere shall I as built the KP version many years gone by. Disappointment 1
Disappointment 2.
Comes in the shape of the new release Airfix MkVb Spitfire, the Don Gentile marking somehow appealing to me, yup I got suckered into thinking it was a new tooling, ( it was in 1974. Just as I was stopping modelling as a kid) well we whittled on an I suppose its progress, My intention is to brush paint apart from the Halfords rattle can primer but we will see. Knew I should have dug out a vac, no vices there?

Re: Fearless Frankie's Foibles
I'm sure you'll knock them into shape FF. The old Spit isn't too bad a kit really but I for one wish manufacturers would state on the box whether the kit inside is an old or new tool. I actually like old kits but other modellers aren't too keen and it isn't right if they aren't forewarned IMHO.

Re: Fearless Frankie's Foibles
Its like the Channel dash set! two toolings forty + years apart! how much longevity are the going to get out of the Vb. I had only stopped building as a kid when this was first kitted. There are numerous Vbs out there that make far better kits but I for one sometimes think Airfix get away with taking the Micheal. What next more new wings with an old fuselage?

Re: Fearless Frankie's Foibles
Well calling the Nakajima done, good little vacform to cut your teeth on if anyone out there has reservations about taking one on. Only slight vice was the brittleness of the canopy, did manage to split it just by the rear gunners window, so the offending pane was cut out and a piece of clear vac plastic was fixed in the open position

Re: Fearless Frankie's Foibles
And as one vac finishes so another starts to take shape. Started cutting out the other day and sanding was done in break times at work! The eagle eyed will probably know what it is but for those that don't its the Rareplanes Mk 14 Meteor and going to be done with the canopy with minimal framing.
The one moan with the kit is that the wheels are moulded along with the undercarraige, so we may be sourcing replacement injected/resin or white metal ones, wink ,wink.
