Re: The Blueberry-Bench
I've started work on a model that I've had in my stash for quite a while. It's from the era where i primed the kit on the sprue and I really wish i hadn't as I've learnt not to do that now. I did try using oven cleaner but it had no effect.
Tamiya A10 Thunderbolt II 1/72
The model is practically putting itself together with almost no filler needed. I did manage to break and lose part of one piece so i had to make a new one. Here's what it should look like...
and here's my replacement...
It's not perfect but i's really small and will be pretty well hidden so i'm ok with it.
The cockpit is nice and detailed
So far i'm really impressed with the kit, hopefully my free-hand 3 tone spraying will do it justice!

Excellent work BB and this is a very tidy looking kit, as I suppose we've come to expect from Tamiya. For all my enthusiasm for post war jets I've never built an A-10 and it is such a charismatic looking aircraft.
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

That looks very nice, I have a Hasegawa one to do. Built it many years ago as a kid along with the Airfix one. Hope I can do a better job this time around.

Re: The Blueberry-Bench
Good question, and I'm trying to rack my memory for a reason... The Radome was indeed a different kind of paint, it was rain erosion type and not what the rest of the A/C was painted in - the paint match was awful but that was what was qualified. Also as time went by and paint suppliers changed there also subtle differences, as was when we started doing repairs - also the radome substrate gets darker with age... basically it was a PITA! The Eurofighter was just as bad!Blueberryruby wrote:If you used to build them perhaps you can answer a question I've been asking myself recently.... why are they a different colour to the rest of the fuselage? I'm guessing there is some special paint on them that doesn't interfere with the radar, or indeed no paint at all, but if that's the case why does the colour vary so much between different types of aircraft??Sir T wrote:That's a nice looking Tornado - well done, much better than mine.
I would worry about the nose, I used to build them (the Radomes) and the colour varied wildly from batch to batch - it looks great!
Here's a story - we used to do the domes for the type 42. We had one returned once for respray (which involved stripping off the outer skin too) because a ships Captain didn't like the colour match and had it repainted...in lead paint...
Didn't do his radars a lot of good...
Love the A-10 btw - a great aircraft. Would you recommend the kit?
Cheers
Stuart

Nice work!
Incidentally this is a 'codeshare' of the original Italeri kit. I think you will see on the box top that it specifies the plastic parts are made in Italy.
Tamiya did this with a number of Italeri kits and bolstered their 1/72 catalogue.
cheers,
David

Charismatic is the right word, it's strange that I've not seen many built. I really like this plane... hopefully i can do it justice!ShaunW wrote:Excellent work BB and this is a very tidy looking kit, as I suppose we've come to expect from Tamiya. Interesting. I did wonder if that was the case but the quality was so high i wasn't sure. I've chucked most of the sprues now so can't checkskypirate wrote:Nice work!

Re: The Blueberry-Bench
I bet the captain got a bit of a telling off after that! I've often wondered why the nose of aircraft is a different colour to the rest of the airframe. It seems like they go through loads of trouble painting a paint scheme and then just give up on the nose!Sir T wrote:Good question, and I'm trying to rack my memory for a reason... i highly recommend the kit, it practically builds itself and te level of detail is fantastic. I would like to see one of the really good models on here build and paint it properly. It would be a thing to behold.

Re: The Blueberry-Bench
It's amazing how tricky that can be! Of course, at the end of the day, you'll be covering it up, so close is usually good enough. I really like that build. Looking forward to watching the progress.Blueberryruby wrote:Pre-shading... tick
