I was looking at the jig online and it is very tempting. Do you think the jig is suitable for a smaller 1/72 scale biplane as well?
Yes. Plenty of scope to move the main supports closer.

Now for the tricky bit. I have drilled out all the holes to slightly oversize so they can accommodate the struts coming in from different angles. I've also attached the small cockpit struts and on initial marrying up they seem to be very close but we all know that can change.

I've labelled all of them so I can keep track as I attach them to the top wing and hopefully then lower it onto the bottom wing.

Nice work Toby, it's looking really good. Was there any rigging on the J.1?

Only on the tail control surfaces. It's mostly metal apart from the wooden prop and canvas on the rear fuselage.

Disaster has struck. I got up to answer the phone and caught the whole kit and caboodle with my arm, sending it to the floor where I managed to tread on it!!
This to say the least is very annoying as I was starting to make progress as some struts were actually in place and everything was coming together quite nicely.
It is now resting in the bin which is a shame but the damage was too severe to even contemplate attempting to rebuild it. Some things are just not meant to be
I guess I should be thankful the kit came off the jig before my foot came in contact otherwise that would be toast as well.

Isn't life fun.

That's sheer bad luck Toby and this was a very promising build. Commiserations!

Not good! That was a really promising build and a great shame it's ended this way!

Back from my Nifty Fifties GB I've reverted to things with two wings and some wire. The Revell 1:48 Stearman PT-17 is the next topic. Looks to be a pretty nice kit with 4 decal options and is a new tool bought out in 2014. Some flash but nothing serious and no obvious ejector moulds that I can see. Haven't decided which version I'm going to do but pretty sure it'll have lots of blue

I like the Stearman, it's a really classic U.S. biplane and many are still flying today. That is yellower than a yellow thing and I'm pretty sure I would also be heading towards the blue and yellow options here.

Started work on the interior. Various choice of colours on the canvass but most were painted with aluminium paint. I have painted it initially olive green and masked the ribbing. I'm not too worried that the masking isn't exact as very little will be seen once closed up. I've also removed the moulded seat belts as I'm using aftermarket ones. The interior frame work is also olive green.
