Very nicely done indeed, this really is building up into a great looking model.

I've painted the spinner and temporarily placed the prop in situ. Also put on rear tail prior to painting and decalling.

Larverly. The Siemens is a great looking bipe.

Terrific work.

Tail now sorted. One thing about the lozenge decals if you make a mistake you can put on a patch and it's hard to tell it's actually there such is the confusion to the eye

Everything has been going very well until I came to apply the cross on the tail and I realised the markings I've chosen are for an early DIII whereas the kit is for a later version. The rudders are completely different along with the cowling and spinner. There is a conversion set by Loon available but as I don't have another SS DIII I'm not going to purchase it. Most unlike me as I seem to buy just about anything to do with a kit I'm building. Too far down the road on this particular bird now. Hey ho. I'm going to carry on finishing this new hybrid.
More decals added and the main struts painted and lozenge applied.

Lots of fun starting to do the rigging and fitting the top wing. I used Gaspatch turnbuckles and using EZ line for the rigging.



Trying to get the top wing to align has bought up an issue that the main struts are too tall so have to be cut down.





The smaller struts by the cockpit are too short so I cut off the originals and have added some new ones.



Also, the larger inner wing struts that go on to the fuselage don't fit well so I've enlarged the holes in the fuselage(as can be seen in the top photo) and added new horizontal locating stubs to replace the ineffectual vertical ones. Poor design by Roden or I've made a massive hiccup along the way re construction.



I just hope my adjustments are accurate otherwise..........

That's some of the finest looking lozenge I've ever seen and your details are fantastic!

I haven't had the best luck with lozenge decals. I got some on sale a while back but the ink flakes off if you look at them funny.

I'm enjoying this wonderful model of a seldom-seen W.W. I bird.

This is really an awesome project. Though your problems with the Roden struts remind me why I fear getting too involved in their kits.

Still, nothing you can't handle.


I like the look of those gaspatch turnbuckles. I've heard others claim that the 48th scale ones are more appropriately sized for 1/32. Is that what you've got there? Will you be doing the eyelet and sleeve thing with the EZ line once its threaded through the eye of the turnbuckle, or are you just gluing them to the eye of the Gaspatch item?

The I did a topcoat of Vallejo woodgrain



I then masked it and repainted with natural wood



To finish I did a top coat of a mix of woodgrain and transparent orange



There are some blemishes but then wood has blemishes so that's my excuse for them.

You masked Vallejo without pulling it up? Are you some kind of wizard?

This is some exemplary modelling. Between the lozenges, rigging and struts I'd have gone insane long ago!

Insanity is not far away. The airleron control struts are proving to be a right pain. I may take up origami and retreat to some Buddhist temple in Nepal to get over it.
