I've been wanting to get the Meng Me-163 for ages. I've read the reviews, it's a fantastic model of one of my favourite aircraft.

Because jets are too maintstream.

On a build thread in the aviation modelling section now.

I just got a light cube, a kind of collapsible tent to take pictures in. I nearly got a smack in the chops unfolding it (my, how Mrs Dazzled chortled ) and now I can't figure out how to fold it down to get it back into it's bag.

Those light tents are a good idea. As for folding it back down, I bet bodging skillfully repairing a 747 is child's play in comparison

I like the look of that Meng Komet as well. Lurking in my stash is the old Dragon Komet in 1/48th scale, which is also a nice looking kit of the type.

I found a very helpful "how to" video on youtube. It's back in its bag now

It's been a while since I added any progress from the Den. It's largely as a result of stress caused by a return to studying, home improvements and a new work pattern. However, a bit of medical advice regarding stress and orders from a higher authority (Mrs Dazzled) have me modelling again. It's nice to have some support if only from one family member.

So, what's going on at the moment?

Well the Komet has stalled slightly. It's not been packed away or shoved on a shelf. All the parts are still ordered and on their tray where they were placed to dry. I'll be getting back to it later this year between GBs and SIG commitments.

Currently I'm working on this....



At the moment it's in this state...



Lot's of parts off the sprues, some subassemblies put together and the initial painting done. Just a few corrections to deal with, hopefully tomorrow, and I should be able to get the engine complete and in the frame .

Other things floating ethereally around the bench are:



A new tool Airfix Typhoon that I started as a relaxing "box shaker" build.

A good plan that went awry. . The fuselage didn't want to go together at the front so I ended up doing quite a bit of tweaking, filling and sanding. Only I could make a £%*& up of such a simple kit .

Right now it's had it's first coat of paint on the underside, Humbrol 64 (I think Airfix's paint refs are highly dubious in this kit ) a la baton hirsuite and I'm ready for coat 2 when I get out the modelling tray again .

And adventurously, given my demonstration of modelling skill with the Typhoon...



Italeri's Spitfire V.

Yes, I know I could have built it for the GB but, in all truth, I was too stressed to think about GBs when I started it. It's going to be finished in the scheme on the box. A nice North African aircraft with the Volkes filter.

It's typical Italeri. It looks great in the box and then...



You get such superb fit....all over....





Oh well, out with the filler. If I have any left after the Typhoon that is.

Apparently, you can never have too many of these

Ooh-er that Italeri kit makes the KP Spitfires look positively great!

I knew they were challenging but do you think they ever did a test build?

A Katana!, the drool over head turner when I was a lad, awesome.

I have seen those Italeri Spits and wondered what they are like, I think I'll keep my distance...

The Katana should be a fun straight forward build though.

Oh wow, the big Katana, never ridden one but they still look modern now! great stuff. I thought the Airfix Tiffie was supposed to be a nice easy kit I thought only I could end up filling and sanding a so-called shake and bake kit - I've yet to build a kit without using filler and I've been trying on and off since 1973! That Italeri Spit is certainly challenging but you'll do a good job, well I'm confident you will anyway

I'm having a bit of an experiment with Alclad.



I picked these up at Telford last November and the chrome bits on the Katana have given me an excuse to use them.

First the black primer.



Tomorrow, the chrome.

I'll report on the success or, more likely, abject failure of this experiment as things develop.

Thanks BW. The video is particularly useful. If the Plastikote doesn't work (that was plan B) then I'll go back and try again with the Alclad.
