Using the harrier as an example, they sold most of the fleet for spare parts for the price of one F-35, that's criminal!

You don't have to tell me about the Harriers mate, it broke my heart to see them sold off for so little when there had been so much invested in them.

Yeah it would have been nice to see a mixed wing of F/A.2 SHARs and GR.7/9s on the deck of HMS QEII

Right time for a quick game of "What's on the Bench?"

Image

Top left: A pair of Airfix A-4Bs all in white primer and looking pretty good for pre-shading.

Bottom left: A Fujimi A-4C. Pre-shading done but needs a seam sorting out on one of the drop tanks then it'll be ready for the underside to be painted.

Right side: Academy F-8E Crusader: Pre-shaded, underside colour on and radomes painted. Ready for a little masking and a few areas to be painted in gunmetal before top colour goes on.

I'm aiming to bring these all up to the same level and get them through painting at the same time.

Now that's what I call a busy bench, Daz. Makes sense to build like this when you have a few subjects that are all more or less in the same paint scheme - that said, two at once is enough for me!

Is that like "Who's on first?" seriously that is a painting assembly line...yikes...I could not keep it all straight...and lose bits and pieces....everywhere....

I struggle with only one kit on the go sometimes! Lots of variety on the go and I like your idea to commemorate such an iconic ship by recreating it's airwing.

I don't know if this is of any use to you for your Forrestal project, but I found out about a documentary about the Forrestal Fire that is on YouTube in it's entirety. 'Seconds from disaster - Carrier explosion' is part stock footage and part dramatization. I've not seen the whole thing yet but plan to this weekend

Thanks PT. I shall look out for that.

Speaking of the Forrestal project......

Things are continuing apace. All the Skyhawks are decalled and the Crusader is awaiting stencilling. Not in the picture are the myriad parts required for undercarriage, slats, air brakes and weapons but they're all on the bench in some semblence of order ;-)

Wow those look great, Daz. In my book there's few post war schemes to touch the classic gull grey over white with loud and proud markings that was applied to USN/USMC aircraft.

What a great looking collection! I shall look forward to seeing it first hand in April at the MK show hopefully
