I've enjoyed browsing the workbench section and thought to add my own. I'm gonna add just a couple of pics for now...

My very dis organised bench which I spotted being skipped at my old place of work so I rescued it and rebuilt it




and my recently finished hand painted (as they'll all be) Airfix Boulton Paul Defiant mk1 @ 1/72 scale
I had a few issues with the decals on this model mostly down to using Humbrol Decal-Fix. I resolved this by ditching it and going old school

Very nice to have your computer on your workbench,my computer is on the living room table and my workbench is in the spare room. Well tidy Defiant,I too have nothing good to say about Decalfix,I just use gloss varnish.

yes its very handy having the pc in my room. it was until recently not connected to t'interweb as its quite old and has no wireless capability and was just where I stored my photos and music. I then realised I could buy a usb wireless thingy for a few quid and hey presto!

Nice looking workbench and superb finish on the Defiant.

What was the issue with the Decalfix? I’ve heard a lot of bad things about but I have to say I’ve never used another type of setting solution in the 10 years I’ve been building and never had any issues with it.

Like you I tend to stay old school and 99.9% of the time I use warm water to lay down my decals – I just paint on a small dab of Decalfix over the difficult decals or areas after I’ve laid it down and removed the excess water.

A brief pictorial of the work I've completed over the last 3 or 4 years since I returned to the hobby after being away from it for probably 40 yrs

The one that started it all off again...and its pretty horrible this was my first and probably penultimate attempt at painting with acrylics before returning to good old Humbrol enamels. The finish is atrocious and I even managed to fog up the clear pieces. I'll post the pics in roughly the order I built them so hopefully you'll see some improvement
















Then it was my 1st ever bi plane and my first ever attempt at rigging and this shows why you should never use plain old cotton thread










back to WW2







I'd never before tried WW1 bi planes and wanted to give them a go and I was shocked at how small these next two were and the camel was a horrible kit to be honest but then its a very old revell moulding. The Fokker I had problems with 1 strut in particular which I broke multiple times and the decals were not the easiest to use I had to touch 1 up with paint and one of the tail decals had to be replaced with a paper illustration cut from the instruction sheet after decal fix disintigrated it but its still one of my favourite models














Then its back onto trying something a little more modern







back in time again and a 2nd attempt at rigging, again its with thread but this one doesn't fray like on the tiger moth... its too heavy too but I'm not bothered about that. The sopwith and fokker will be revisited in the future and rigged with something much finer. the BE 2c will have the same heavy thread as theyre a pair



























Then its back to the BP Defiant at the beginning of my workbench log. So that's where I'm at at the moment except for a 1/600 Mauritania currently residing with my grandson and a part built HMS Victory which I feel is my nemesis and may never get completed and The USS Voyager I have on the go tho thats in early stages at the moment

Nice workspace and models you have there.

I'm not a fan of the Humbrol decal fix. I usually go old school but use Micro Set and Micro Sol for the more demanding decals.

Thanks iggie. I wish I had a photo of my very first ever model from back in the day...(Airfix Spitfire of course) because that one must have been truly horrendous. I remember being very impatient with it and putting the decals on before the paint and glue all over the place and then having to try and paint round them and those early brushes werent anything to write home about. I also remember my models hanging from the ceiling and being bored one day I shot them all to pieces with my .177 air rifle....my mum wasn't too pleased about the pellet holes in the ceiling neither...what jolly childhood japes. Thankfully I have actually grown up now lol

NEXT!....
Going a little bigger with the next build and deviating from 1 prop to 2. This is my way of building up to one of my 'must builds' the Lancaster but that's in the future.
So for my next build...




Primed using Halfords Grey from a rattle can and ready to go...

It looks sharp, clean and tidy although I did spot one tiny bit of flash that I'll deal with later. I'm looking forward to this one
I might also try something new with this as it's bigger I might try doing the panel lines, something I've never bothered with before
as I don't weather
but first off as usual for me is the crew

Those are all fantastic models but I think I like the biplanes best (more wings!).

The W.W. I dogfight double is very nicely done no mean feat with that Fokker!

Nice to see your progress of work Kev. I'd do mine but I think it would run to several pages long

Re:rigging. I use EZline. It was meant for model railways but it's s great for aircraft rigging and very easy to use. A dot of superglue and stretch to the next point, more glue and you're done. Not cheap at 10 pounds or so a roll but a 100 metre roll lasts forever
