Wow! Back with a vengeance, Stuart. (What, no Vengeance on the workbench?)
That FROG Tempest rang several bells. But I was mixed up - it was the Heller kit that I built a long time ago. Looks very similar.
Great to see all this activity.
Cheers,
David

It's really good to see you back at the bench, Stuart and best of luck with your new job. Plus a revision to your forum user name too - this really is a fresh start! Is that NT '262 being a bit of a pain to build?
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Thanks Celt, but less of the skills - I don't have any, just 'happy accidents' (I finshed the Hellcat a while ago - I need to post some pictures).celt wrote:Hi Sir T ,nice Hellcat on your nice new desk,I did notice your frame painting skills.

The Heller kit is a bit more refined than this in some respects, like actually having a cockpit and the back of the cooling duct open.
No Vengeance yet - I do have a Avenger?
Thanks Shaun - It's always good to have the mojo back. Especially today - I handed in my notice, and will henceforth take every oppertunity to stick it to my new boss before I leave in March (Please please please give me gardening leave!)ShaunW wrote:It's really good to see you back at the bench, Stuart and best of luck with your new job. Yes the Sir T thing has been bothering me for a while - time for a change
The Me262 is a bit of a mixed bag, It's a nice model that I'm sure will look good when done, but it has totally crap fit. I've had to use a ton of filler around the fuse and re-scribe everything. There is no way the cockpit and wing will fit as per the instructions and well - I've kind of run out of steam with it. ALL the wing joints need filling now but I can't be bothered at present - I'm working on the engines but the fit is about the same.
Time to start something new
Cheers!

If they don't give you gardening leave, just take a kit in to work......
Best wishes
Jim
If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing

It's a great feeling being able to move on from a crap job/boss, been there and got the t-shirt on that one Good for you but three months is a long notice period - hopefully they won't make it too awkward for you.

I hope not Shaun as it'll make it drag some what - I'm still hoping for a bit of gardening leave.ShaunW wrote:It's a great feeling being able to move on from a crap job/boss, been there and got the t-shirt on that one Good for you but three months is a long notice period - hopefully they won't make it too awkward for you.
Work continues on the FROG Tempest - I've just finished the main body of painting (one of the advantages of having a cold and working from home ). I have to say I think these Hataka Blue line paints are pretty good. They do need some primer I think, but they go on nicely directly from the bottle (I added a few drops of flow enhancer here and there but it's not realy needed). I do like the fact that they are all matt and not blooming satin.
I've just got to finish cleaning up the canopy, paint the exhaust and then the clear coats will be added.
I also fancy having a holiday build - I'm thinking classic british jet at the moment - watch this space.
Cheers!

Re: Stuart’s ‘All New’ Backseat Blunders II
Some of you may remember that a while ago I started this...
Well I've managed to progress on it a little bit. I have to say that although I'm sure it'll look good when finished, I've not been overly impressed with the kit thus far. I'm not sure if it's me, but it's required far more work at the joins than the old FROG Tempest. I have to re-scribe ALL of the fuselage panel lines at the seams by the time I'd got it together.
Likewise, as the review build in AMW pointed out. If you attached the cockpit tub to the lower wing (as per the instructions) before fitting the whole assembly into the fuse half - it doesn't fit. The best thing to do is to fit the tub directly into the fuselage first, and then add the wing after snipping of all the cockpit attachment pins. However, even after I did this I still had issues fitting the lower wing and had to sand it down in a few places.
I have some anoying gaps to fill around the wing roots after fitting the upper wings halves, and I wasn't overly impressed with the fit of the tail feathers either.
All that being said - it does look good, I was really happy with the cockpit.
Here are some pictures...
The next job is to fill the gaps at the roots and attach the canopy - then it's on to the engine pods.
Regards
Stuart

Yeah not so good, but mind you don't get me wrong, it's a fun kit - I've found it quite satisfying so far.iggie wrote:Hmmm, I shall have to bear that in mind when I tackle mine....not so good!
