+1 from me Stuart, I think the Lightning looks very good. When it comes to brush painting (and I do very little save for detail and touch up work), IMHO enamel paint win hands down. I am a big fan of Tamiya acrylic paints (which, as you probably know, are alcohol based and don't actually smell much less than enamels!) for airbrushing but cannot for the life of me brush paint more than very small areas using them without ending up with a paint finish akin to a ploughed field. I'll keep an eye on your Matchbox Hawk build too - I've built the Airfix Hawk once or twice over the years but have never built its MB rival.
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Well done, Stuart.
Great work with the brushes. I, too, am still an enamel user. though lots of my fellow modellers do wonderful things with acrylics. I should spend some time looking over their shoulders. For the future, you understand. ;-)
I have used that green, which is so readily available, but personally I think it is missing the necessary olive tint. Next time I use it I will try to achieve that. If successful, I will doctor the whole tinlet! In the meantime my dwindling supply of Xtracolour keeps me happy.

The MB Hawk takes me back to the mid-70s! I built it wheels-up and was quite proud of it. It is long gone. And the MB F-5B is also in my stash, for my trainer collection. With the Italeri Hawk 100.

Cheers,

David

Beautiful paint job with brush! I am still a 'part-time' enamel user and will be till my supplies last as I am a herder :).

Lovely work with a brush,I prefer using enamels, but since my wifes illness I have had to switch to acrylics. They dont flow or cover as well as enamels but at least I can keep an eye on my wife and model in the same room now.

Thanks for all the kind comments Gents! You're too kind :-D

Although I still do most of my painting with Acrylics (along the same reasons as you celt), I agree with you all in that Enamels are a much nicer medium - Besides, there's much more nostalgia in painting these older kits with them!

Speaking of which - work on the Hawk for the MB GB continues very slowly...

Image

It does make me think I'm bloody mad though - I now have 5 kits in wip and I haven't finished a build since the Fury back in July last year - I really need to start clearing some of these off! Starting with that F-5!

Mind you - I am enjoying them all though - Which I suppose is the point.

Cheers

It's good to see the Hawk progressing Stuart. I haven't finished a build since my Lynx back in October and I've been fannying about with my current Sea Harrier build since November. After deciding to cut down on commitment builds after last year's general flapping over Telford, I've tried to stop worrying about how many I build in a year and to concentrate on the enjoyment - so we'll see how that goes  :ha:

Lol - I know what you mean. It's always nice to finish something but at the moment I'm more interested in just enjoying the process. I have found I tend to enjoy myself more if I stick to one or two builds at a time though - so I'm not sure how I ended up with 5  - No matter. I think I'll try and get the Hawk, Lightning and F.5 finished first - and then get back to the Corsair and F-16A... BEFORE I start something else.

Cheers

Thanks to my son waking up at 3:30  this morning I managed to make a bit of progress on the Hawk (in an effort to wake up a bit) :-D

Sorry for the poor pictures - it was about 5am when I took them.

Here's the pit together - I used a rather nice little pre-painted pilot Greg gave me. The rear seat just had some masking tape belts. I was going to add some IP's but I decided against it as I'm going to short on time this week.

Image

And here's the fuselage together and the wings on - The fit was rather good actually.

I'll do the seams next before I add the intakes etc.

Cheers (and sorry about the poor pics again.

Cheers

The Hawk looks really good Stuart! Are you doing the training scheme?

The Lighting too. I do not know how you can hand brush paint these things. I get nervous after the first coat. I can see how even you made it after another coat but I chicken out or screw it up with brush marks after trying to go over a drying area to catch a streak.

I hear you on starting too many models. I find that when I do that, by the time I get back to them, I do not like something I did previously and they sit longer. Eventually they just fade away (bin). I can't multitask on these things.

This is it. The moment we should have trained for.

Thanks Paul.

I do enjoy a bit of brushing painting - I find it very relaxing, which is why I've never really gone done the airbrush route. Thanks for the compliment, however the pictures don't show just how rough my work is  :-D

Hi All,

Well I'm going to stick a fork in this one.

Not my best work and certainly not the best kit - but I'm glad it's done and glad to having finished something (The first since last July).

The F5 looks very sharp indeed, and the Lightning is coming along nicely
Best wishes

Thanks David :-D The decals are made by LF Models (I got them on ebay I think) - There's a picture of them at the bottom of page 52 of this thread.
