TBH - that's two builds this year where I've been really happy with the construction and have then knackered it with the paint. As much as I enjoy wielding the Hairy stick I'm really looking forward to getting my airbrush!
I have dodgy colour vision so I don't tend to fuss too much about total accuracy and nor do I get involved in those arguments about shades that spring up from time to time - I go with whatever shade the paint manufacturer says it is, what paint shade is recommended on the kit instruction sheet or ask the wife to match up colours against photos if I'm uncertain!

I'm a big fan of airbrushing and have been since the 90's. I was never satisfied with my ability to get a decent paint finish using a brush and found that an airbrush was the only way I could get anything like a decent finish - although in my hands, an airbrush does not guarantee that  :ha: . My brushes now only get used for detail stuff and minor touch-ups.
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Happened to me this year too. Sorry to hear it. Can you just overpaint it?

I think I may have to - I can wet-n-dry the paint back a bit, but I'm unsure as to how to recover the panel line detail without re-scribing.

Here it is in all its ghastly glory...

You have my sympathies!
I use my Black and Decker jigsaw. I fit a clamp into the blade holder, clamp the paint jar in the jaws and turn it on for maybe a minute. So far it's mixed everything I threw at it beautifully although sometime I have to wait for some bubbles to dissipate.

Glad to see you're still going strong, Stu.

I've also never been to worried about exact color matches etc. Some here knows that too well. :-D
It just stresses me out too much. Just have fun, go with what looks allright.
Plus, there's always the "too bright room" and "too dark room" and "I forgot to turn off the table lamp" and "the dog ate my homework" excuse... :ha:
Confused as always, and somewhere in hiding on the Scandinavian peninsula...

Strange thing to happen Stu. Seeing how your work looks so nice when you use a brush I can't see what would cause this. I also would rather paint in matt then clearcoat. Maybe the pigment just settles really fast. Can it be stripped with alcohol or something like that? I have never used Humbrol Acrylics.

Thanks Paul! I've never tried stripping paint but I hear oven cleaner works well.

As it is I've finished the Hellcat, lets see if any of you can spot my rather major gaff!

Overall I really enjoyed this build - those Hobbyboss easybuild kits are great. The uppers were painted using mk.I eyeball matched paints from two Hataka paint sets - one airbrush 'Red-line' set and one from a Hairy stick 'blue-line' set - both brush painted beautifully! I'll certainly be looking into their paints more!

The matt coat was from a Humbrol rattle can - Which actually bloody worked!

Cheers

It looks excellent Stuart and the colours certainly look spot on.
(Even if the u/c is facing the wrong way!) ;-) Easily done 8-)
Best wishes

Thanks Gents!

You are indeed right iggie - The wheels should be facing outwards. I had no idea I'd mucked this up until it was mentioned to me a few days ago... woops!

Still looks great Stuart. Easy to mix up when they fold back instead of sideways.

That Hellcat has turned out very well Stuart. Turn the wheels the right way round and the job will be a good one

Thanks Shaun - Thankfully I managed to get the gear off last night. It's currently sitting on my desk drying while I'm at work - I'll get some pictures later.
