I REALLY like like it to be perfectly honest.
OK, it is a bit smellier than other primers but it is lacquer based so flashes off quickly and dries rock solid.
Once dried out (overnight preferably) it gets a light polishing with 36000 micromesh which gets it really smooth ready for painting.

More on the Intruder.
Not keen on Hataka paints but was asked to use them for this build as it will be featured in a forthcoming book on the Vietnam Air War. Certainly takes on a more sinister look in the green camo in my opinion.

Also started in the new Airfix 1/48 Sea Hurricane Mk.Ib
Really nice kit this one, clamped the main spar piece as it was slightly warped and as the main cockpit and undercarriage parts all fix around these any way. The fuselage insides and pilots armour plate were airbrushed Tamiya Cockpit Green which actually looks better than the shade on the lid once applied. The silver parts were sprayed Mr.Color Chrome Silver and then everything was brought together with a wash using artists oils. I opened up the holes on the seat and armour plate ready to use some Eduard pre-painted steel belts.

Wow. The Hurri is really well appointed. Hello LMS? I need one.

Nice work as always Mike, that A-6 looks very different in camo. I've been tempted by the Hataka paint sets – why didn't you like them?

Thanks Mike.
The Hataka paint are water based acrylic and tend to clog the airbrush tip in an instant. Very annoying.
I used their acrylic thinner too. I had to get it *SO* thin to airbrush properly that it needed lots of coats to build up the opacity. The Insignia white underside needed 7-8 coats! I also had a lot of spidering too due to the thin-ness of it.
I had better results when using Mr.Color levelling thinner when I did some touch ups with the greens, still clogged the tip though.
I guess I am just so used to using lacquer based acrylic like Tamiya and GSI that they are more forgiving and easier. I never have airbrush tip clogging with them either. I am also a recent convert to MRP paints which are super, if a little pricey.

Thanks for the reply, Mike. I also use Tamiya/Gunze almost exclusively, except RAF shades when I tend to use Xtracrylix – I get the tip-clogging issues with those sometimes, but the coverage is excellent. I'll give the Hataka paints a miss then. Pity, as they offer a good range of colours and I really like the packaging on the boxed sets :)

I got the Intruder all finished up.
The decals from CTA were fantastic, easy to use and settled brilliantly.
Despite my mixed feelings on the Hataka paints, they look spot on now its done.

Wow, it looks like it would really sting you if bothered. Amazing transformation from grey-white into a real jungle warrior. I do not think I have seen Intruder painted that way before. Great build.

Despite you not liking the paints you have done a well tidy model.

That is a very unusual scheme on a very nice build. Congrats.

I don't reckon I've seen one in anything but grey either. Looks good.

Thanks folks...

Finally have some paint on the Airfix sea Hurricane. I opted to paint the leading edge red and yellow parts as there was no way I was going to trust these sections to decals.

I used Mr.Hobby Aqueous Sky for the undersides and fuselage band, the upper camo was done using my new favourite paints MRP...
